So people keep telling me to tighten my lockring on my fuji when i get it. How do I do this? What kind of tool does it require? Is this a good tool to have sitting around? Or is this something I could just borrow from somebody and be on my merry way?

Whilst flaming their spoils for a midday feast, a vessel dared near the island camp. Thus, Poopncow, consumed by rage, frothed dribble at a most galliant haste from Diet Coke N Mentos mortor attacks upon the intruders. Such is the revelry expressed for the diabolical, Baldylocks, and the dreadfully hungry, Spud.

Speaking of vessels nearing a camp, English Captain John Smith ventured up these parts in 1608, right by where the Aaarrr-B-Q was yesterday, and encountered the local Nacotchtank people. The crew ventured up the "Eastern Branch" (Anacostia River) as far north as modern-day Cottage City, MD.
-Some of what will transpire during tomorrow's legendary, PG PILLAGE: Port Towne History Tour!
Starts 6:30pm at 33rd street and Bunkerhill Rd, Mt Rainier MD.
Take Rhode Island Ave north. Make a left at 34th St. Make a left at Bunkerhill.....violah!
Ends by 8:30pm at Franklins Restaurant, Hyattsville MD. 10-15 minute ride from 2 Metro Stations, but right on Rhode Island Avenue itself.

I have the tools to tighten my lockring. I do it with a chain-whip and a lockring socket thing. I deal with a cassette, if it's any difference. When you get your Fuji, you can use them.

kalani,
the lockring tool you're talking about (also called a lockring spanner) is a handy tool to have in your toolbox. different tool than is needed for a cassete. if the fuji's here by the thurs, i can bring mine to the nats pillage.

The fuji is supposed to be here tomorrow, and I don't think I'll be making it to the nats pillage. If you say it's a handy tool to have I'll probably try to get my hands on my own. Any recommended shops for said tool?

City Bikes has them. Or you can use mine sometime, I'll be in the area of AU tomorrow evening if that helps you. PM me if your bike shows up and you want to use my tool,(ask ryand).
hmm, i dont know that any shops around here stock 1/8" chainwhips; i can help you build up and secure your cog and lockring tomorrow. PM me your digits

Not bike related, DC related:
So damn: I have two twin beds in my room and just found out that you can buy a product that bridges the two beds to make a king size bed. I'd have to buy all new king size bedding, which ain't cheap, and I'd have two sets of sheets (one flannel), an egg crate pad, and a comforter that would no longer be utilized. Anybody in need of, or know somebody in need of some twin-size bedding? Or does anybody have any good ideas to help me out?
If anybody wants to buy it, it's all barely used and I'd wash it all. :-D Always showered before sleeping; no post-bike ride naps or anything.
Also in the buy/sell category:
My friend expressed an interest in riding bikes. To expose her, we rented a 20" Trek hybrid out of Bethesda and went roundtrip to Georgetown. She liked it and wasn't dead the next day so I'm seeing potential. She's asked me to hunt down a bike for her on the cheap (~$300). I'm checking CL and ebay but wondered if anyone here might have local leeds? Potential (geared) pirate here everyone! Perhaps a trip to Chain Reaction is in order...
And continuing the longish post ... Who's going on Mike's ride this evening? I maybe late as I think I lost my front light and have to stop at the shop to buy a new one and do some other errands before the start.

Meeeee! Spud's riding up with me. We'll leave my vecinity (Edgewood/Rhode Island Ave Metro Station) by 5:50, and be there early.
6:30pm 33rd and Bunkerhill RD, Mt Rainier MD (practically NE DC).
Rain sure would be nice on such a hot day. I don't know if we'll be that lucky though with only a 30% chance.

i might be able to have it ready for next polo,
SPEAKING OF WHICH...
It's about time we make new mallets people. I mean seriously!
The old ones have done really well for so long, but are looking pretty terrible these days.
Now, I don't know if Rincewind (aka cheif engineer 4 life) is willing to contribute his time/genius to this again, or whether we are going to need to enlist the services of another enterprising pirate, but someone should step up to the deck and volunteer.
Baldylocks has said that he can fabricate a mallet (possibly more) in his "shop", and I certainly hope this is the case. Additionally there was talk of welding alluminum and other light weight materials to produce a sturdy mallet that won't break like my wooden one the other day.
And as a broken mallet just won't do, over the labor day weekend I will be making two new models. This way I can offer one to the opposing team, and use my own without having to feel bad about kicking their butts!! ;)
There are instructions online, but it seems I'm having some trouble finding them.
SO IF THERE IS ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE
WHO THINKS THEY CAN DO BETTER
OR WANTS TO SHOW SOME PIRATE SKILL
OR EVEN HAS AN ORIGINAL IDEA
please do so before next week's game.
thank you
/t27
speaking of polo, mallets are at my place (peter told me to take them) so don't worry about picking them up next week.
next week's game is on thursday night.
i think its about time we consider playing polo seriously as well. playing around a fountain is fun and all but there is a reason nobody else plays it the way we have been. we started playing in sherwood because it was relatively close to peter's (back in october when we first constructed our mallets) and everyone knew where it was, well there are plenty of grass fields around, MTBs and cruisers are cheap or free.
20 inch hybrid eh? how tall is she?
She's 5'8 so I think 20-21" is around a good size/

yeah, that's a little short for the schwinn (22.5") but i'll keep an eye out.
i'm up for trying some polo on grass sometime. although i'm in the process of trying to consolidate the stable, rather than expand it. i think getting rid of a couple bikes and building a dedicated cyclocross/polo bike is in my near future.
which brings me to my other thing. i've heard faint rumblings of some interest in cyclocross races. cross season is in the fall and i just sent an email asking about licenses and fees and all that. if others are interested i could ask about forming a team as well. unfortunately, we'd probably have to travel for some races, but i've got a car out in the burbs. anybody interested?
grassy polo and cyclocross sounds fun to me.
i'm interested but know very little about it besides the obvious. i have a truck and when cleaned out, it can hold as many bikes as photon's car can hold people...problem is i usually work weekends which is when the races typically are held, same problem i have with alleycats, but i'll definitely support a pirates cx team.

I certainly don't have the money to spend on a grassy polo or cyclocross bike, but if anybody comes across one of those free cruisers/mountain bikes that might fit me (5'10") go ahead and pick it up and I will find room for it.
By the way, ups.com says the Fuji has been delivered! Now I just have to wait for GWU package services to sort themselves out and send me an email and I'll make the walk to get it. I just love carrying a bike box 7 blocks by myself!

I already spoke with Spud about this. For the design I have in mind, we need a machinable plastic plate, that is around 20mm thick. Spud said he might be able to get some of that.

Spud said he might be able to get some of that.
The question isn't whether he can get it (which I have no doubt), but whether he leaves you enough time to make a sample mallet (or more) by the next game.
It would be really great if we could do a little showcase of our various models' attributes.
A show 'n tell.

Sherwood was the polo spot because that was where messengers played after an alleycat last summer.
The Chain Reaction guys play on the mall and would be a good bunch of guys to play with.
Omar in particular is wicked.
DCstreet is another bunch of nice folks and they might be into playing. (dcstreet.com).
Whatabout 10" sections of appropriate diameter PVC pipe?
Drill a golf club handle sized hole in one side and use epoxy putty on the other side. (inside).
I also learned a cool top tube pad technique from a metal fabricator friend.
washing machine hose, cut to length and then cut lengthwise. looks good, costs 22cents, fits everything.
Anybody stopping by OpenCity on any upcoming rides.
Nice guys there, lots of riders, and they want to do more.
New Citybikes to open by the CCT in G-town.
and yes, that is my stuff on CL, anyone want anything?
Special pirate discounts for you my friend.
Before I sell it. Anyone want the curb climber? (Rocky Mountain RM6)?
Last but...Critical MASS.
Who else is riding?
mike, spud, tink, shane, Rpc, baldy, poopNC, etc.
