When did I move into a frat house? WTF?

Ouch. Deleted. But really, frat house? Damn, never been accused of anything that offensive before. I guess since I made a fart joke I'm now doomed to a life of Miller Lite and Dave Mathews concerts.
Would you like to split on gas money for the ride to Chicago Noah?
i believe my friend jess and i will be heading to chicago via her car. we should drive as a group.
edit: one or two extra seats available.

hey guys. just a reminder that the seagull century registration fee goes up after tomorrow, from $55 to $75.
i wish i had the $55 to register. unfortunately, i think my contributions to MS150 are going to limit my ability to pay such a fee. :(

Awesome!
I'm going with gears as well (I think I'm riding my dad's Ti seven road bike (http://www.sevencycles.com/bikes/aerios.html))
but,,,,
This year I'm also going to be riding with him and his friend.
And they're not exactly the fastest riders.
Maybe I will ride fixed.

I'm in for the Seagull.

Hulo! I will hopefully make the last bit of critical mass when i get out of work. I may be on gears also. hahah. CRAZY, I KNOWZERS!
Anywho, You all should come to Baltimore on September 18th to ride the Jones Falls Expressway. I did it last year and it was way rad. I have so much room at my new place and you all can come over and what nahts. AH, the land of pleasant living.

Also, remember that October 7th is the T-town swap meet. I went up last year the night before and it is basically a big rad party. Highly recommended.

Hey guys, I had to flip to p.2 to find this thread!! first time ever!
I recently bought a new road bike, in my size, and because of a promise I made to my fiancee, I now have to get rid of a bike (or at least the frame): does anybody know someone who would be interested in a 56cm univega frame for cheap (35-40)? I'm going to list it on CL, but thought I'd give pirates first dibs.
Also, my crankset is really ****ing on there, any suggestions for getting that off?
edit: top c-c is 55, center of crankset to seatstay bolt is 57.
nats pillage tonight. i get off work around 6, where will you all be then?

hmm... tonight around 6? I'll be trying to justify my recent purchases (parts from RedDeMartini and a new *to me* raleigh) to my fiancee  ... and trying to get the cranks off my old road frame. :crash: <-- replace comp with cranks.

SOmeone may vaguely remember me bragging about this Specialized 18 speed mountain bike I bought out in falls church for $35. ITs about 28" i think (yeah its big).
WEll, stupid me i forgot to do a thorough check before i bought it, turns out one of the nuts holding the cranks and wheelchain to the frame is missing. Does anybody have any extra nuts that might fit?
Alternatively I might just buy a new crank set. I saw these on Craigslist but not sure how much i should offer up. Any ideas

also- why is my post a reply to ROcks in Head's post- cuz im having the opposite crank problem as him
1) your post may be a response to rocks from hitting reply w/ quote rather than just reply. no big deal.
2) yes there is a nats pillage. look back a couple of pages and look for a post from spud about it.
3) go to a bike shop and see if they have any parts laying around. also, chain reaction has some stuff that you may be able to use. but im not exactly sure what youre missing, are you missing a chainring bolt(holding the chainring onto the crank arm) or are you missing the bolt holding the crank arm onto the bottom bracket?
rocks, what parts did you get from ben?
dirtyphotons
08-31-06, 10:29 AM
rocks in head - you need a specific tool called a crank puller. alternatively i'm sure a shop will take em off for you cheap.
jbgoode - any shop will have chainring bolts for cheap. you need an allen wrench and a special (but quite cheap) tool to tighten it, but a shop should do it quick and cheap.

Its the latter- the nut holding the crank arm onto the bottom bracket.
Ryan, Nats pillage meets at Sherwood at 6pm DPT (pirate time, which means 20 minutes late), so you should be fine if you're coming right from work. I had completely forgotten about it, so thanks for reminding me. I think we normally roll straight down Mass to E. Capitol if you're late.
Who else is going?
spud is going for sure, and i know photons is not. by the way, i will be returning from philly monday with a present for you, so we should meet up since you probably have the day off as well.

As dirtyphotons mentioned, a crank puller/extractor is helpful in that case. I have one, if you want to use it...
Should you decide to go to a shop and they ask for more maybe $10 to remove it, it might be worthwile to just buy the tool (some versions are available for as low as $7.95).
If you want to use mine send me a PM.

If you have a square taper Bottom Bracket (BB) you probably need a (metric) M8 bolt. There are some very fancy ones available, that you don't need a crank puller/extractor for, if you want to remove the crank (see rock's problem). But a regular M8 with a wide head or a washer does the trick. Your LBS should have those for cheap/free.
About the liked crank sets, at least for one of them (probably the XT one) you have to change the BB when you want to install it (square taper vs. splined/Octalink).

some really funky bars... mtb fenders, a crankset, a brake lever.... I'm in heaven... I also borrowed his lockring wrench, so I might be back for more when I return it! (ben - I'm waiting to get another cog... won't be too long)
ps. thanks rincewind, I'll ask about that when I make my bikeshop run tonight.
do you know how much he was asking for the cinelli stem/bars?

08-31-06, 11:49 AM
nah, like he said in his CL post, you make an offer, if it's too low, he'll make a counter-offer, and you haggle ;) until you find a price which will work for both of you.
kalani, i found a stem for you on ebay...

edit: rock that with some major taylor style bars...

wow, that's a very angled, very short, very welded stem.
yeah, it was a joke. he just got his first fixie and we were talking about what he would change about it and he said stem and saddle.

anyone want to take a ride one of these days after work up to College Park Bicycles? I want to find a 54cm lugged steel frame for my roadie. It would be a speciality pillage
Won't be able to join y'all for the Nats pillage tonight, but I hope they play better than they did last night.
**** baseball, im going for the beer.
edit: CPB is open to 9 on Thursdays.
I was thinking we should make one thursday a month trips up to CPB or something. Last time was fun.
I wouldn't recommend just showing up, though. Look through the online catalog and inquire about it a few days in advance, as most of the stock isn't at the store.
Edit: Christ, is it labor day already? We should do something, so I can get my dowry from Ryan.

This may be very bad for my wallet. But I would like to find a nice 54cm steel road frame for a general purpose geared bike. The Basso is bling, but at 52, an angry inch shy.

I didn't know there is a SAE (http://www.sae.org/servlets/index) century... :p
I just registered for the Sea Gull Century.
Is anyone up for a 'warm-up' century (http://bikepptc.org/web_final/)? I did that last year (the pictures proof it) and it was fun.
