Rides and Races - DC Pirates' Pillages and Plunders

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I gotta ride into DC on a day off from class to checkout some bike polo. I've never seen nor played it.

yeah something about that would normally creep me out, but since theyre from jersey its almost 83% understandable. its still a little weird.

Hell yes! I was wondering when we were gonna get on that ****.

My first suggestion is to get rid of all the line breaks at the top of the page!

That's a pretty awesome intro graphic.

Let me know what you might need. I recommend easy to read for a color scheme - light gray background, black type.

Whoa sweet.

Is the mailing list for rides, CM and stuff? If so, I think that's a great idea.

CM tomorrow (Thursday, 9/7) in College Park. Meeting at 6pm at the sundial in the middle of U of Maryland's mall. If anyone's going to be around you should ride :) Some people are going downtown afterwords for the PeaceForum event at 7ish.

Everyone has to learn sometime. Recommend that you do some searching on the net about bike parts and how they all fit together. You will have a better appreciation for what to look for when considering a build.

when comes to finding fixie parts:

best shop to annoy - citi bikes - adams morgan
best shop to keep your sense of humor because they will get annoyed at you after the 100 other people who asked the same damn fixie question that day - citi bikes adams morgan
best "junk yard wars" bike shop - chain reaction - North Cap and P
best shop to be laughted out the door - pro-shop - geo town
best shop on the same block as pro-shop - revolution - geo town
best shop not worth crossing into VA - revolution - wilson blvd

good luck

the best way to learn may be to soak it up by visiting one of our social events

Thanks alot....ive been to about 3 of those shops and when i asked about certain fixie parts or fixed gear bikes they didnt seem to know wtf i was talking about lol....this was a while ago tho.....im pretty knowledgable about the parts and things i need thanks to this place.....

Anyone know where i can get purple deep v rims? i wanna see what degree of purple they are and i cant find any good pictures of any online....Please Help!!!

The purple is 'eggplant'.

I'd forgotten all about it, and then yesterday got the email from Ergott that my deep V's are now built up and ready for dispatch.

I can't even recall what colour I ordered them in! It was either white or yellow... but for the life of me I have no idea.

Thanks for the pic reminder though...

6pm at the sundial on Maryland's campus. Maybe swing by Proteus for their potluck afterwords?

I don't know how many people are going to show up, this is the first one since classes started again and it hasn't been advertised.

Is Tom gonna be at Proteus tonight? Not that Jill is not pleasant enough, but I want to show Tom the BASSO he helped me with. Plus there are kayak building pix that would be fun to show Jill.

Well, where ever we go, I'm bringing the BASSO.

SUNDAY
fat tire pillage

meet under the key bridge (on the canal, not K street)

EDIT: skinny tires of course welcome. this will be for the most part hard packed dirt so you'll be ok. bring patch stuff just in case.

Last night, I fell in love with an affair called Bike Polo. My cassette helped me out big time to perform well as a virgin. I sped here and there, but I was way too anxious to control the wiffle ball smoothly for long enough.....except that one time I SCORED for team: Us, Edition 2!!

Tonight, I'll romance the ride with a bottle of white under the full moon. Full Moon Bikes and Wine (or whatever) 8:30 west-end reflecting pool in front of the Lincoln Memorial (23rd & Independence Ave NW)
