Rides and Races - DC Pirates' Pillages and Plunders

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My tires are blown. It was probably me having maxed them out while inflating, going just over the 100 psi limit. The store won't accept them as a return without a reciept or any kind of trail in their computer. When I noticed bulges, I let a lot of air out. I'm going by City Bikes tonight, but Chain Reaction said to check them out Thursday because they'll have tires for me then. These blown tires are Nimbus 700x28 from Capital Hill Bikes purchased just a couple months ago.
Tires should not fail for going a little over the max. tire pressure.
http://sheldonbrown.com/tires.html#pressure
A tire in good condition also should not bulge, but rater blow off the rim, if you significantly overinflate it.

bbmike: any markings on the tires saying how old they are? No reason tires should bulge unless they're very old,or have a manufacturing defect. Both tires went, and it was the tires,no the tubes, right? If the tires weren't old, then it must have been a bad lot. If Cap Hill won't take them back, maybe you should contact Specialized.

I was thinking...
Where's a good basketball court/tennis court/playground in the DC area that we can play polo on, and not get arrested for being there after dark?
Keep your eyes open people.

Eastern Market has a big black top. Its kinda part of a school, but Kinda not. They use it on weekends for the flea market, but the rest of the week its kinda just... well big and empty. I'll have to look at it closer.

We could play grass polo at Wilson High School - they seem to forget to lock their gates. *eyebrow*

1) He is God.
2) Plus the track there is fun to ride on. My tires make silly noises on that material and I can hear it when I ride on the drops.

There was a guy in San Diego who rode with a prosthetic leg. There was an article in the paper about him testing out the aerodynamic properties of his leg in a wind tunnel.
Bladed, carbon fiber limbs, anyone?

When I hiked the AT there was a guy that was hiking it with a computerized prosthetic leg. He could do all kinds of fun tricks like spinning all the way around on one leg.

There was a one-legged biker back in Boulder who could kick my butt on his worst day. He was incredible!
I wonder if riding with one leg is kinda similar to riding kangaroo.

question: are there any pirates in Georgetown area/at Georgetown University? Just got back to campus with my new old conversion (82 schwinn world sport, light blue w/ white lugs, in case anyone sees me around) I follow the forums mostly out of boredom, but now that I'm here I've become concerned for my safety due the apparently high number of "pirates" in the DC area. It's gotten so bad I can harldy leave my room for fear if there might be pirates lurking unknown around me as I innocently walk to and from class and ride around Georgetown (I've seen suspicious bikes in several locations) Anyways, just wondering as to the approximate proximity of other pirates for reasons of self-preservation.
p.s. I don't know if any of y'all will remember this, but a couple months ago i asked for advice on a conversion I was working on in Columbus, OH and y'all sent me to shants who had some great advice. So thanks for the initial encouragement cause if i do say so myself, it turned out well.
Both myself and Booger work in Georgetown, so beware from the hours of 9 to 7. Yarrr!
Also, Kalani lives across from the Watergate, and he will run you over.
Sometimes we will meet up for a lunchtime ride. Next time somebody posts about one, you should meet up.
edit: or any ride for that matter. we also play polo every other week. next thursday, location tbd (or are we using pennsylvania between 15 and 16?

very cool. Glad to hear that I am not in constant danger and should be safe as long as I restrict my movements during the daylight hours. I'll keep my ears open for a lunchtime ride, though I normally have classes. Perhaps polo then.

Heh, is it a rule that all regional forums must use vanilla? (Not that I have anything against vanilla).
Edit: Also I already broke it.

getting a parse error on www.dcfixed.com/vanilla
yeah it doesnt like fake last names zacked
fixed
vanilla is just a lot cooler than most of the others, lots of energy behind developing plugins and what not, and not the tired old BB-interface.
I am great at breaking things. Though in my defense, it should be able to handle that.
Good work, spud!
