Mountain Biking - About to Purchase some BB7s, any reason not to do so?

I'm about to purchase a set of Avid BB7s for my homebrew bike and I'm wondering, since it's nearing the '06 season, is there any reason to wait for '06 parts or will they be the same thing as the '05 parts?

On a second note, would it be worth it to go from the standard rotors to a set of polygon [wavy] rotors?

Same deal as far as I know for '06. I'm not really sold on the rotors, either seems to work the same.

Oh those BB7s, I thought you meant Balfas.

I would go with whatever you want, its not going to make that much difference.

i tried the wavy rotors on my bb7s and they pulsated. maybe it was just a bad batch but it sucked.

they work great with stock rotors tho.

Should be all the same. They haven't changed anything for the last few years. Hard to improve on perfection I suppose.

As most of you know I went Hope on mine. Calipers really don't care who makes the rotor so long as it's the right diameter. (Bicycle rotors have a nominal width of about 2mm so it's all the same)

What determines what size rotor you can run on your front hub????

Is it the hub, the bracket on your front fork??? I want to upgrade my front disk brakes one day to the BB7 8 inch rotor and need some insight from you MTB guru's. Thanks

I think it's all of what you mentioned. I've read in the instruction manual for my fork not to exceed 6".

Why do you think you need 8"? I thought you were looking to do XC and not DH/FR and you were budgeting on the lowish end? Getting a bike at your intended price point is likely to not support 8" rotors.

I figured the 8 inch rotor was the better setup over the 6. I didn't reallize it was mainly for DH/FR riding. I just want the best stopping power that their is. Looks like I'll just go with the 6 inch when the time comes. Looks like Pricepoint has it for around $80 which is a pretty good price I think.

You will have PLENTY of stopping power with the 6". Many here will attest to that.

It really isn't the hub as much as it is the fork. The stock fork on a 4300 will NOT handle the force generated by a 8" rotor. You run a real risk going that route.

You will have PLENTY of stopping power with the 6". Many here will attest to that.

It's a disk brake thing. The XC Race folks use them up front due to a small amount of weight shaved. Personally I don't believe a radial wheel has any real advantage over a traditional 3x.
