I just got back from a night ride with a friend of mine and his two other buddies. This is my first night ride in a couple of years, it sure does put a different perspective on singletrack trails. The park we ride in is very hilly and technical, lots of roots and steep drop-offs, and off-camber trails. Good stuff.

Does anyone else here ride at night and on what kind of terrain?

I live right off a trailhead so I go riding through it after dark quite often. The trails aren't spectacular but they're plenty fun. There's maybe about 15 miles worth of twisty and tight loops with some ups and downs. It's also quite wet in there. It's all wooded and pretty easy to get lost in the daytime. At night... well... let's just say I never pop out where I thought I would and almost always have to go home by road. |8^)

We do night rides here. Mostly in the fall when it gets dark so early. It is quite a change, almost like another sport. Has anyone noticed the "spider eyes" yet?

And bats swooping down in the path of your light. Also, deer, moose, owls ... I love night riding.

Spider eyes, yes (I don't do drugs, really). Here in the midwest there a gobs of spiders in the woods. And when you ride at night you will keep seeing these mystery sparkly lights, especially if you wear a helmet light. They look like little jewells shining and sparkling. One time one of us was brave enough to mention seeing this so we all started stopping and digging around until we found the source. It was these teenie little spiders and their eyes were reflecting the lights. You will see them on the ground, in the trees, and what seems to be suspended in mid air. I guess we all were afraid to mention it for fear the others would think we had one too many crashes under our belts. But we all saw them. Look next time you go...
