Advocacy & Safety - Batteryless bike lights

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi
Just found this on BikeBiz.com - worth a look www.goodbyebatteries.com -brilliant idea
:)
Very cool. Shame its not cheaper and shipping from the US
oops... "The arm fastens to the wheel axle using the wheel nut on the bike."
Not all bikes have "wheel nuts."
Wonder if this would work with QR.

I donno, how bright are they? I'm sure they're using LED's,but you still need decent volts to get them bright. I remember the old generator setup I had on my bike as a kid;neither headlight or taillight was very bright. I can't see this magnet setup being much of an improvement. And just like the generator, these lights only work when moving. Stop at a light and they go out.
I also wonder about their stats. 20% reduction in accidents? Was this over bikes with no lights at all? I'd also want my rear light a bit higher than my axle.
Sorry,no sale here. If you're looking to save money and/or no waste batteries,I think you'd do better to just get some rechargeable batts. I've been using them for years with my minidisc and MP3 players with good results.
You... oops, I mean they are aware that a flashing bike light is illegal in some places? Not that it's necessarily vigorously enforced, but still.

And what happens when you're stationary?

Yes, my only question was "What happens if I'm stopped at a light?" I still want cars to see me!

I have a feeling we're directly or indirectly being given a viral-marketing spiel here. This is the third person in two days pimping these.

Because of your comment I tool a look at MikeP's profile.
The first few posts are from 2005 not 2006. It was his first and only post. I missed the 05 instead of 06 at first too.
