Track Cycling - Do they make them small?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Do they make velodromes small? Years ago (like 13 or so) I was watching a UConn VB game and changed the channel and found this amazingly hypnotic, fun looking sport, but I had no idea what it was. There were two guys riding in what looked like a large spa mated with an indoor soccer complex (the ones with the wood floors covered in wax) and their back wheels were black (one may have been yellow) and they were hitting these ungodly high speeds and riding at what seems impossibly odd angles...basically, these two guys were riding dern near parellel to the ground and not in the normal sort of way.
While snooping online all the ones I could find were huge...this only fit the two guys, and it was close...what was that? Was that just a small indoor velo?

smallest I've seen is a portable track in Belgium. 168m, I think....
So steep, to get to the centre, you went through a door in the track that was taped shut for racing.

slightly bigger and not so homemade, but yeah...that's what i've always thought of as track cycling...i didn't realize there could be that many people at one time on one track!

I've spoken to two people who have had queasy stomachs from riding this track.

Great....I normally feel like a spew racing at 10/10ths on a 333m track so that thing would be a disaster!!!
short cranks and tiny gears the order of the day??

Calshot is a great little track. Takes a bit of time to learn the "tecnique" of riding it but you can have some great racing on it. Must get down there again. I'd really like to ride the Forest Town track. Looks like a really facility.

I've got to find a cheaper way to get to Forest. I'm never going to get out there if I have to drop $120 on a rental car everytime I want to head down. Mike, Do you know if people regularly car / van / whatever pool down there from Toronto?

The old Fonthill Velodrome in Fonthill Ontario (defunct) was 113M and designed to fit in a hockey rink and had 55 degree turns.

Our Forest City Vel is on an old ice surface but it cuts up into the seats for a couple of rows. Fonthill's owner/builder Peter Junek now races here.

I don't know anyone who comes that distance regular for riding/training nights but there are some Toronto area racers who come down on Saturday race nights. Contact Trackmeister Rob Good and maybe he will have some info for you.
