Commuting - Got hit by a car today...

I was riding my normal 4.3 mile commute going straight through an area with little shops and a BMW driven by a German made a right turn right into me. No real damage to my bike or the car. The handle bars where a little out of whack but I straightened them out and dusted myself off. The driver was very appologetic so I wasn't mad. It was across the street from a school and the school's police officer saw the accident so he came over adn took an hour of everyone's time to file a report. I am pretty scrapped up but I have been a skateboarder for years so its nothing new to me. I was checking over my bike and there was soem skin and hair from my leg stuck in the shifter. The worst part is that I am a bit bloody so I can't put my work cloths on. Well that's about it. I just wanted to put it out there. I have been riding to work for about 2 months now and this is the first incident.

Glad to hear you're ok modest. I'd have thought a German driver would actually pay attention and notice drivers, but I guess not. Good the cop was there to get a report. They're good in case of either of you tries to sue for damages.

a report is really good incase you later notice your frame is f-ed up.

give your bike a close inspection... i didn't even see the wrinkles in my frame when i got hit last time. it was only the bikeshop that brought them to my attention. frame was totalled, thank god i didn't just let the guy give me a hundred bucks for a new wheel (the only thing i thought was damaged).

also pay attention to your body, a lot of times the adrenaline of geting hit might mask an injury that will show up later.

and finally, congrats on staying cool, when i got hit i first threw about every profanity in the book before calming down and apologizing for my anger...

yes, glad to hear you're ok and no major damage (that you know of) Major bonus having police right there, though it cost you some time initially, his report could save you hours of mental anguish in the future.

Good to hear your ok , I've been there but wasn't as lucky not much damage to my bike but I just had the second lot of surgery to repair my right leg ( 2nd in 9 months ) if you want to see what a car is capable of at low speed click on the link to my myspace address ( nothing gory just pictures of the scar )
