How can I convert my 05 Bianchi Axis to Disc brakes. Forget cost for a moment. Is it possible? If so, how?

Also, I'm 230 and I put a rack and carry bag on the back. All told, there must be about 200lbs (including my weight) on the back wheel when I am loaded for my commute. I'm running the stock 38c cross tires at max (75psi) pressure. The tire definitely pancakes out a bit more than I am used to. I feel like if I used a tire that could handle higher pressure, but is still relatively wide, I'd be set for loaded touring. Does this tires exist?

Any suggestions? Am I going to destroy that beautiful rear wheel?

Thanks

A good frame builder should be able to weld or braze a disc brake mount to your frame. The problem is that your bike has 130mm dropouts and I don't know any rear disc wheelset that aren't 135mm. The fork is easier, just buy a 700c fork set up for a disc. You will probably to have get the frame repainted after the brazing though. This could run into quite a bit of money for not much more braking performance.

to quote a poster from roadbikreview, "disc brakes are a solution to a non-existant problem."

cantis work super well when set up right.

if your frame is steel they can be welded on, new fork as mentioned. the brakes themselves. i think 130 disc rear hub exists i think you can special order one through QBP---go to ur LBS. then have the new rear wheel built up, as well as a new front wheel that has the disc mount on the hub.

several hundred $$$, when you could just go canti or v's.

if money is no object, Anything can be done.

The Axis is Aluminum, not steel. You can't weld or repair aluminum frames very easily. Steel, or Ti - no problem - Al, not so easy.
