Mountain Biking - Thoughts on Univega Alpina HT-510?

It looks like a good bike. And is at good price (price cut off for an older model) at a nice shop nearby.

Any particular things I should know about? Any experience with these? Thank you for any contribution.

I thought Univega went out of business? I have not seen a new one in quite a few years....anyone confirm that?
Generally speaking, they were a fine brand.

No need to bump threads. The fork on that bike (according to the German website) isn't worth much in my opinion

I have an old Univega actually..."Alpina 505"...I raced on it for quite a few years, ended up replacing nearly every part a few times. It was really light with what I changed and did quite well for me.

A few things I didnt like about it.

-the rear triangle is really flexy, and even under brake load, will flex
-the head tube was a non-standard size, not sure if they still have that (makes fork upgrades more difficult)
-Univega isn't greatly respected amongst bike manufacturers, although mine held up well

Comparatively and by itself, could I hear your opinion on this bike?

The price is lower then what you see. And I'm not from Slovakia.

Really? Sorry, I'm not someone who doesn't know what a road bike looks like, but this one doesn't have a body, transmission, rims, tyres, handlebars... anything like a road bike. The only thing that looks like it could belong on a road bike is the saddle...

What about the 700c tires?

Now, thoughts on the quality and how much do you think it's worth would be nice. :)

Hey, no worries. I'm pretty new at this also. Checking the specs, the fork only has 40mm of travel, and it's an RST model I've never heard of. The rest of the components are a mixed bag. Can't say much about the frame, as my Czech is a little rusty. My best guess is that it is comparable to a Trek 3700. What kind of riding would you be doing? It may be pretty decent for primarily on-road, with an occasional brief foray on light trails.

Given the choice between this bike and the Univega, I'd take the Univega in a heartbeat.

Hmmm, the Trek 3700 is actually a bit cheaper, but the Author does provide an interesting hybrid, and could prove fast because of the tires. I indeed need something that that will provide speed on quality asphalt and flat areas (on which I'm mostly riding), but also not be crippling in less bike-friendly and uphill/downhill parts of the city, and do a good job at an occasional trip to the local hills.

Apparently the tires are RITCHEY SPEEDMAX CROSS 700c x 35 and it weights 26 pounds
