Hi,

I am in Australia and I am newish to mountain bikes. I am looking at two Specialized bikes. The full suspension Specialized Hardrock Uno and the hardtail Specialized Rockhopper A1 FS. The prices are:

Specialized Hardrock Uno: AU$900 (US$450)
Specialized Rockhopper A1 FS: AU$1200 (US$600)

In the US Specialized web site, it lists the Uno as being the more expensive bike. Why?

I am looking at doing some offroad (not many jumps). What bike is best value for me?

Thanks

Oh I was considering another bike. The Mongoose Rockadile LTD. This is the top of the range Rockadile. It goes for AU$900 or $US 450. This has full Deore componentry.

Well the uno is more expensive because it is dually. Make sure the local shop you are buying from didn't skimp on any of the parts to make a cheaper bike.

I would go with a rockhopper. Build up your skills and practice with it. In a year or two when you have gotten beyond the 'newish' level get a dually.

You will also know at that point what geometry you like to ride on. This helps when you are intermediate to advanced rider.
