I will hit 500 miles tonight on the way home.

500 miles in nothing and yet a big deal at the same time. So far riding 500 miles has helped me lose 50 + pounds. I feel better than I have in years.

If I could have done my commute in July I would be looking at 650 to 700 miles right now.

Next goal 1000 miles (500 more) by New Years Then a century ride next spring.

Woohoo! Way to go! I think 500 miles is something to toot your horn about (I did when I hit a couple of weeks ago!).

AND you lost 50 pounds. Very impressive. I've only dropped maybe 8 pounds although pants fit better even now. Weight loss is my new goal.

But this is about you and what an accomplishment. I love hearing success stories, so thanks for posting! :D

Yes, 50 pounds is super cool. I've lost about 40 now and I think I'm a skinny cat for the first time in years. Cycling rules!!!

500 miles is great.

That would be from Denver to Albuquerque and just a bit more. Impressive. And the 50 lb weight loss. Wish I could say the same thing. :D

Keep it up. Pretty soon you will be in San Diego!

Great job! Two great milestones!

The only thing that bothers me is that I rode nearly 500 miles in September alone, and I barely lost 4 lbs!

This isn't fair! I'm going to go make a snack and think about this... I wonder if we have any ice cream.

Just because some of us have been riding for years, do not think that we do not respect the targets set and goals met by some of the newer riders. WE DO. Problem is that is is difficult for some of us to relate to that "HIGH" a target that some of you have set yourselves. 500 miles is a milestone. It means that you are now cyclist's. You are not one of the many with the ambition of some that bought a bike for the same reason as you, but it is now collecting dust in the shed. You have fought through that pain barrier that comes with starting cycling and overcome it. You have found the benefits that a little "Gentle" exercise can bring.

Well done to all the New cyclists out there. Now's the time to set that new target and aim for the 1,000 mile outer ring, or the 1,000 ft hill climb, or is it going to be the bullseye of a century ride in the Spring?

Well done to all of you and stop showing the experienced riders up, by achieving in months what probably took us years to do.

Congratulations. The more experienced riders don't think much of these miles, but for a new rider it definitely is a great milestone. You've done the hard part of conditioning, it's all downhill from here on.

What grade does that hill have to be? :)

Were talking all grades of riders so just say a 20 mile ride with 1,000 ft of climbing in it instead of 1 big hit. Thas will give us more experienced riders a chance up against these fit, ENTHUSIASTIC, young riders.

For those who have not had the weight loss of some others- send me the address of your baker, as he must make some fanatastic buns

Good job! How much will you weigh in 3,000 miles? By the way, I lost 35 pounds cycling in the last few months and cycling does rule!!!

Although I've been riding for a number of years, I've never ridden for weight loss. Like many of you, I've set goals for myself. Whenever I've achieved those goals, it gave me a great feeling of accomplishment and taught me that nothing is beyond my reach.
You're right, Joe, 500 miles IS a big deal because you did it, you lost 50 lbs. and you feel better. AND you're looking forward to your next goals....congrats to you and to all you guys! Your posts inspire the rest of us.

Oh yeah. Truth be told, nothing gives me a bigger thrill than when I hear of one of the 50+ers getting into biking like you have. And, 500 miles is pretty dang good, so congratulations. It makes one feel younger, doesn't it?

It is when the women at work start saying your looking good. Now, that makes me feel young.

Now if I could do something about the no hair thing.

I work with all men............if they start telling me I'm looking good, I'll be looking for a new job.................maybe not, I'm pretty vain and can always use a compliment.
