Big boy + Carbon fiber frame = Broken frame and probable hospital bills

i don't really like the looks of that one very much. it looks too complicated and squishy.

i just got a 1999 steel ibis with magura johnnys and mavic crosslinks. i need to get a new crankset, pedals, fork, handlebars and stem for it before it'll be trailworthy. but maaaaan is it ever sexy.

That looks like somebody sprinkled **** on a white rabbit. I predict the road model will sell better, because roadies seem to like flushing money down the toilet more than MTBers.

Nice if you're into carbon MTBs, but I hope Ibis brings back the Hakkalugi cross bike. Best bike name ever.

For the cluesless few who want to take a shot at anything new . . .

The new IBIS carbon is one of the nicest carbon MTB's ever made. There is only one or two other "full carbon" linkage bikes ever produced. Marcus Storck gets props for the other. For all you folks who want to blast the little guys while the mamouths of this sport crank out crap in steel, aluminum and half assed carbon, we need to give credit to IBIS. This is one nice ride and a hole lot nicer than most carbon bikes you see these days. When the hole frickin market is buyin carbon you can't blame them for trying to follow the trends that keep them in business. That said, the bike they've built greatly exceeds that of most carbon mtb offerings on the market. Yes it's not steel, but for the price it is a "steal" and a classic for the modern MTB.

Rayn's reflexive FUD aside, from everything I've heard, it's an incredibly strong frame. One of the head Ibis guys is self-proclaimed '6'-6", 200 lbs, rides like a rhinocerous' and rocks it out. The bike's getting praise all over the place by people that beat the tar out of it. When I called them, they told me about crash test results that put it in the range of downhill bombers as far as strength and durability.

Not bad for a bike that can easily be built as sub-26 pounds, with 5" of rear travel.

Of course, since I have one on order, I'm a tool of the man, I'm sure.

I've owned a number of Ibi but I think, for me, Scot blew it when he spec'd the geometry on the new frame.


R. ...what is it about the geometry that you don't like? I believe the H/A is 69 and 73 S/A. Isn't that pretty much standard for 5 inch bikes? I believe that the 5-spot has the same geo.

I haven't ridden the new Ibis so I have no idea how it handles. Just going by the numbers it would seem to handle pretty close to the Turner.
