Mountain Biking - Made a mistake

I accidentally went to a sporting goods store and bought a bike. It is a diamondback Coil EX Frame. I know that everone must think that was dumb, but hey I'm new. I'm having all kinds of problems, mainly due to the fact that the parts aren't designed for the type of riding I'm doing. Is the frame good enough just to upgrade, or is it just better to buy a new bike. Keep in mind I know it was a bad move.

Probably better and cheaper to just buy a new bike. I did the same thing as you a while back, tried to go the cheaper way and just ended up costing me more money in the long run. Broke lots of parts and just ended up buying a new bike anyway.

We all have our beginnings, so next time research and research the next bike.

Is it at all possible to take the bike back? I am pretty good at getting large companies to "bend" their "rules" for me. If all fails- read the small print. You can usually stick 'em with a service guarantee- they are only paying lip service to the idea, but if you can get an employee to return it (some won't but some probably will)- you're free and clear ;)

Yeah, my friend did the same thing. Went to a sporting good store bought a bike, he didn't like it and tried to take it back the next day but they wouldn't let him exchange or take it back. Now he's stuck with it. Hate it for him...

Your first step is to try and take it back. How did you pay? Credit card companies offer the option of contesting the charge. I don't know why they wouldn't take it back but who knows?

There's always some synaptically challenged individual out there who'll buy it to cruise the trailer park. After all it's still got a day left on it

This made me laugh. I like your attitude. Go buy a used bike. $300 goes a very long way used.

Yeah, I did the same thing, went into Sport Mart and bought a $300 doller bike. Lets see how much I have put into it now.

1. New Fork $80.00 + $20.00 For Labour.
2. New Hub $20.00 + $20.00 for Labour
3. Atlest 3 new Inner Tubes. $10.00 For All.
4. 1 Brake Tune Up $30.00

Total = $180.00
+ $300.00
--------
$480.00

So it has turned into a $480.00 doller bike. Not too Much more but that's $480.00 I could have saved up to buy a better bike. Now that I am more into mountain biking, I need something better to take the abuse. But when I has 10, a $300.00 bike you buy yourself seems really good. But now that I do harder stuff, it just seems like a hunk of scrap metal
