How do you Properly pronounce SIDI and Record (as in Campagnolo Record). Pinarello, De Rosa, and Colnago??? I need to know!!!!!!!!!!
First SIDI is it:: 1. sigh-die
2. sid- ee (almost like city but with a d)
3. sigh- dee
4. sid- eye
and now Record
is it record in like "he just won the race in World Record Time"
or is it record like "Aerosmith just went into the studio to record their new album"
is Pinarello-- PIN-arello or PEEN-arello
And is De Rosa---- pronounced 1. Duh Ross-ah or 2. Dee Ross-ah
or 3.Dee ROSE-ah or 4. Duh-ROSE-ah
finally is Colnago--- Call -nawg- oh or Coal- nay-go
I think that all the works that you are trying to pronounce are Italian. Therefore you have to follow the Italian pronuncion key. Using anything in English will not really work (or will work randomly). As a result you have (all phonetics are in english)
(h s are all soft)
sidi -> see-dee
record -> rec-ohrd-e (r is trilled)
pinarello -> pee-ahr-ello
De Rosa -> de ro-sah (r is trilled)
Colnago -> Cohl-nahg-oh (g like in good)
I might be slightly off, its been a little while. :)
Hope this helps your dilemma
OK, now-try the following:
Ghisallo
Ciocc
Gitane
and so on......

Well.... One time, I went into a bike store and asked if they had Giant model such-and-such in stock. The guy said "no", and then informed me, "by the way, Giant is a French company... it's pronouned gee-aunt." (Hard "g", as in geezer, accent on the second syllable.) Go figure.

But, did he tell you how to pronounce Ksyrium? ;)

Dura ace ----Dura chee
Mavic would be mah VEEK. (No silent "C".) And, in French, it's always the last sylable that gets the emphasis.

what is the correct way to say bianchi?
I've heard it said bee-on-ke,by-anchy, bee-anchy, And i am really stumped.
Most won't laugh at you when miss pronouncing something, but you feel kinda of dumb when doing it...
Someone asked earlier about Ksyrium I'm curious about that one I have a set of Ksyrium SSC wheels would like to pronounce it correclty. Also what about ISIS?
I know with Campagnolo I just started using Campy instead seemed alot easier to say :)

ISIS---that would depend on what the definition of "is" "is"
ISIS as in the BB.
First I would think Is Is, but that does not seem right.. then pronouncing "I" "S" "I" "S" seems a bit long haha
Here's a couple more:
Argenteiul
Mercx
(please correct any spelling errors)

Ksyrium - the K is silent. I think Mavic (like maverick, IMO) had it in a FAQ on their web page for a while.
Isis - I-sis. I as in I, sis as in sister.

Eddie's name is pronounced MERKS. (I have actually met someone by that name--a distaff relative).
and SRAM is one syllable...just like it looks, according to their website.
How does one pronounces MAVIC?

D*Alex, Argenteuil, is a tough one. Several of the sounds don't really exist in English. Try Arj-on-TUH-ee. The "g" in the first syllable is pronounced like the "J" in "Jacques." The "ee" should be pronounced very softly.

If you're talking about Jacques Anquentil? mid 60's TdF rider,
5 wins. His rival was Poulidor?
There's a guy here at work from Belgium, he pronounces it
Meerks I always thought the it was Murks.

For our fellow Italophiles,
Don't forget this classic comedic song: Joe Dolce song (http://www.lyricfreak.com/j/joe-dolce/50367.htm) :D
The song is readily available from file sharing programs.:lol:

Still confused on SRAM. In computer terminology, you use 2 words to say SRAM. "S" - pause - "RAM". Is the one syllable pronounciation like the word scram? As in, "get out of here... scram you kids".
Also, I've heard an Englishman pronounce IRC Mythos as Mee-those... thought that was kind of neat.
I don't shop at Target... I shop at the tar-SHAY.
