Alt Bike Culture - Xtracycle Access Foundation needs a treasurer

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey Bike people:

XAccess, the nonprofit arm of Xtracycle, is seeking a treasurer / bookkeeper. XAccess is legally distinct from our sister company, Xtracycle, inc. We have separate headquarters (in Berkeley), a separate staff, and our own 501c3 nonprofit status.

Xtracycle and XAccess were both spawned the same idea and technology, long bikes that carry impressive loads simply, elegantly, and inexpensively. But the mission of XAccess is to bring this technology to the developing world, creating bicycle transport jobs in countries such as Kenya.

We are looking for a treasurer with experience in Quickbooks and general bookkeeping prowess. This person will have responsibility for filing our IRS forms, balancing our checkbook once every month, and preparing simple financial reports for our board and key donors. If you've ever done the books for a small business or a nonprofit, and you're an all-around intelligent person with good computer skills, that should be ample qualifications.

We are housed in the Berkeley Center for Appropriate Transportation, a fantastic community of inventers, bicycle advocates, and entrepreneurs. It's a great place to hang out, fix your bike, organize a ride, read the latest obscure bike magazines from the UK, etc. If you become our treasurer, you will have access to this community.

We are definitely looking for someone from within the bike community who will value the opportunity to make a difference by making XAccess more organized and financially effective. Pay will be dependant on experience, but all candidates will be encouraged to start on a volunteer basis through the end of 2005 before establishing a pay schedule for bookkeeping which will could take hold in 2006. Treasurer is an officer-level position, which is an honor, but also brings responsibilities. It is not appropriate for someone who expects to move out of town in a few months. If you're established in the Bay Area, and you have some time to volunteer, and you want to help XAccess fulfill our mission, please contact director Paul Freedman at 510-548-2453 or by email by responding privately to this post.

Thanks for reading and please tell your friends about this opportunity!

Yours,

Paul Freedman

XAccess director
