Introductions - Hello from Tampa Bay

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

hey there, both of you all!
I am in Tampa, and want to ride (again) - for a couple of reasons - but largely (no pun intended) to help take of some weight. And for some fun.
Always was real bike-oriented as a kid, and its still fun.
Either of you ever ride that nice big paved trail up by the Withlacoochee River? I cross it sometimes when I'm up that way riding my motorcycle, and have always thought it would be so much fun to ride that path/trail on my bicycle. my bike = old, fairly cruddy-but-functional TREK 800.
I just joined this forum and look forward to looking around and to meeting some folks.

Yeah!! More Tampabayers. :)
I have never done the Withlachoochee trail, Em, but have been wanting to. My dad lives pretty close to it (in Brooksville) and has been talking about maybe quitting smoking and taking up biking. I'd love to ride it with him.
I live in Clearwater and ride East/West Trail, Pinellas Trail and Suncoast trails mostly.

I like it quite abit. I use it on weeknights, after work, to ride around the neighborhood. It's a nice balance of speed and comfort. If I want to go farther and faster I have a Lemond road bike which comes out on the weekends.

Hey I'm from Tampa too! How about that! hehe.. anyway, I love to ride MTB but dont have a trail ready rig at this point. Just converted my old Nishiki MTB for commuting (slicks) so dont think I'd do too well at Alifia. I'm definitely looking to get a good MTB maybe next year... working on getting back in shape first :) We should definitely do a bike forums Tampa ride sometime, that would be awesome!

I worked at a florist on DI for the last couple months and just got fired today. I live up near USF though.
I think a Tampa ride would be primo, and we could all settle for maybe the trail that runs perpendicular to the veterans expressway up near citrus park? Thats my exercise trail, even though I ride it on my knobby tire MTB.

Hi Shooter, I am, as I sit here, about 2 miles from DI. My father lives there. I work on Howard, just off Bayshore. I hope to ride Bayshore pretty soon.
Had a rough little 20 minute ride last night. Had to face "reality".
That I'm wayyyyyyyyyy out of shape for biking.
lol, sad....

Newbie to the forum and to cycling in general...
I am also a Tampa Bay resident (Riverview actually) and am ready to pull the trigger on a Trek 7500 fx (disc). I'm hoping to get a little better deal since the '06 models are now trickling out. I hear that they released the 7.5 fx, but not the 7.5 fx disc yet.
Anyway, I'm tired of riding my Pawn Shop special and am ready for an upgrade.
I looked at a 1200, but think that I might not be ready for a road bike just yet...
Also looking to pick up a Bones rack - 2 bike is all I need. Anyone have one they are looking to get rid of?
Advice is welcome.

Ha! I just moved from the Riverview (technically address was "Gibsoton", but I won't claim it) area about 1 1/2 years ago over here to Clearwater area (closer to work). Welcome to the forum. :)

We have a pretty good sized group ridding on Davis Islands on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Daylight savings will probabaly put a crimp on that for the next few months. Maybe we will resurect the ride as an AM ride then? We meet at the Tennis Court parking lot and ride along the channel and out to the airport (Petor O Knight not TIA!) and back. It's more of an interval ride that breaks apart on the sprints. if you get dropped, turn around and catch us when we come by again. Its about a 5 3/4 mile "loop" of sorts.
Sometimes a few of us have broken off and ride down to MacDill AFB and back.
We have anywhere from 10-25 riders depending on the night.

When do you guys start out? Is it kind of an informal start time? I'm usually around Davis Is. on Sat. and Sun. morning, but stay in my own neighborhood on weekdays.

We start around 5:30 - 6:00. The rout is a repeat "there and back" so you can show up anytime and jump in when you are ready. Daylight savings will probabaly kill it off until April. Keep in touch and I will keep you posted when it starts up or changes.

What? No blinkies? (I kid, I kid). Sometimes I'll see a bunch of bikers when I'm driving to get Slurpees at the 7-11. I was curious if that was your group. I'm not sure I could make it anyways. The safest way out of my neighborhood is the N. Blvd. bridge. I don't mind it most of the time, but during rush hour it scares me.

I with you on N Blvd. During rush hour I actually take Tampa St. through downtown and just get real agressive with taking a lane over the Brorein St. bridge. One hell of a sprint I tell ya!
No slurpies at 7-11 for me. Must be my "evil twin".

Hello everyone..........I live in St. Pete---Kenneth City/Lealman area. I've posted here a few times (mostly in the "sidewalk cycling" thread) and I can't help but notice the large number of people from the Tampa Bay area. I just wanted to say bravo to all of you who ride and participate in discussions---it can only mean good things to come for Tampa and Pinellas.
Hello. Wow, lot's of Tampa folks. Bent rider in Plant City here, Howdy neighbor.
