Road Cycling - anyone ever heard of a "cycle pro regent"?

I found a cycle pro regent someone is selling. He says it is 5 to 10 years old. The only details i can find online about it is they have suntour derails and diacompte brakes. It is a 10 speed. Does anyone know anything about these bikes? He only wants 30 for it, but hasnt told me the condition yet.

i don't know anything about cycle pro road bikes, but when i was a kid, i had a cycle pro bmx bike. they were pretty top-of-the-line back then, so i imagine the same quality could be found in their road bikes.

I would doubt the 5-10 years old claim as I don't believe SunTour has made any derailleurs since the 80's. The ones they made worked well, but they are old. For $30, you can't go too wrong if it is close to the right size and it's rideable.

Also the fact that it is ten speed says mid to late 70's. I'm not much of a bike historian, but I think 6 speed was common by the early 80's.
[edit: 6 speed rear hubs making twelve speed bikes]

yeah, you're right about the 10 speed thing, but as far as suntour not making derailleurs...

I didnt think it could be that new either. I am buying this bike to fix it up and sell it, im trying to get an estimate of value to price it with, unless its nice then i'll keep it for myself.

I had a Cyclepro Regent! 'Twas my first "real" bike way back in 1988-ish.
They were made by Nishiki.
Not a bad bike, although I would hardly call it top of the line. As I recall it cost around $450, which wasn't a small sum back then. I remember it had a cottered crank. 12 Speed. I'm pretty sure it had Shimano deraileurs on it.
I set it up as a tourer, and logged some heavy miles on it though, often with weights in the panniers. Then some miserable bastard stole it.
If the one the guy is trying to sell is red with Blue Nashbar panniers on it, hold him down until I get there!
