Hi. I noticed yesterday while cycling that there is a vibration and a 'click' whenever i pedal downwards. This would happen on both sides(the left and right cranks). It seems to be coming from my bottom bracket but it may be my pedals(they are platforms pedals). Should i lube them?

I dunno...

But last week I started hearing loud intermittent pops in my BB area, and then yesterday (20 miles out, of course) the thing just gave up the ghost and now sounds like screeching 2 y/o.

A lot of folks will tell you it's likely something other than the BB -- but not me!

It could be a bottom bracket. The last time it happened to me it turned out to be my shoes.

Won't be your shoes on platform pedals I don't think but it's worth a look at your pedal threads. Just slap some grease on them anyway, it certainly won't do them any harm.

The best way to tell if it's the BB is to try and rock the cranks side-to-side. If there is any movement then it's likely that the bearings are goosed and a new cartridge will be necessary. They don't cost much so it's not the end of the world. Hope you get it sorted, there's nothing worse than a phantom clicking!

Hi. I tried to rock my cranks , there was no movement besides my crank arm flexing(Jeez are they supposed to flex?). I would try lubing my pedals and tightening the cranks tommorow.
