so yeah, ive been lookin at this rail for a while. its on a 25-30 step, its not very steep but its not very mellow either. the run up isnt the best, about 5 feet from a curb. im pretty sure i can get on it but my biggest concern is staying on it. it seems to have been broken and re-welded in 2 places. the welds are bad so the rail angles up on the first one and to the right on the second one. since ive only ridden park about 4-5 times ive havent really done any rails. im thinking i should just try to keep my weight directly over the rail and maybe tilt the bike over the rail a little.
I know i should just go for it and not make such a big deal out of it, but i just wanted to see if anyone had any pointers that would be usefull.

Maybe for your first hand rail you should find a more ideal rail with a nice runway and that isnt poorly welded in two places. And this is a street rail not a perfectly set up park rail so that's a little different so dont worry about that. Why dont you try hitting like a foot high rail a few times and make sure you arent going to fall off and get an idea how you personally need to balance on a rail because if you go up to hit it with only one way of balancing on it in your head what happens if you dont land on it correctly? You're screwed. So practice on something smaller and then just go for it.

the rail in set in a way that i can get onto it with only a little speed, so i'd get up onto it and have enough time to bail out before i pick up too much speed on it. also the steps are gravel with wood on the edges of them. but yeah, i might try to find something to balance on to get a feel for it

look for a small 10 stair rail. work on that first.

but if you want to go ahead with a big rail, here's my advice.

when you jump on the rail, try to nosedive a little bit and catch your front peg first, and the back will follow.get on top of the rail. you want your weight to be right above the rail, leaning a bit more to the other side. it would help if you were going faster, but as you said you can't. it helps to put your pedal down for balance. your friends won't make fun of you if it's a manly rail. as you approach the end of the rail, pull up so you don't fall on your face.

the slower you go the harder its going to be for you to balance. My recomendation would be to find a 8-12 stair rail w/o a kink at the bottom, with stairs on one side and bushes/grass on the other.

kinks at the bottom are better

I'm gonna get heck for this. But if you want to ride a rail, get your own or go to a park. Why scrape up someone elses rail. I'm sure they wouldn't want you too, which means you'de be tresspassing if they didn't. But if you have permission, then by all means unjoy.

You're about as street as a dirt road.

I'm assuming that's suppose to be witty, but I don't get it.

i live for that. especially when they watch you and threaten to call police. Then you have the option of throwing something at them, or telling them that you will fuk them up.

most rails near me are in parks or places where nobody cares. in manhattan it's a different story. i have done some crazy **** there. i feeble 180'd a rail at police headquarters, across the street from the banks. Edwin feebled the huge ledge there as his first trick in the old animal video. i've hit rails inside these scyscrapers, and had a friend hold the door open so i could get out quick. i farsided the trump tower rails.

pissing people off. that's what street is all about

I know what you mean, but i seriously doupt they'd mind. this rail seems to have been heavily sessioned before. its bare metal on top for the first half and the sides are scratched through a bunch of layers of paint. Plus its at some public playground beside a very busy street. plus who cares if anyone flames you for saying that, you're just thinking of others' before yourself and thats cool
