I just bought a WTB saddle for my road bike. It's replaicing a Terry Liberator Ti Race saddle. I'm not sure if the WTB is designed for a mountain or road bike, but it won't fit on the seat post. The saddle rails are spaced too far apart, and it doesn't sit in the grooves like the Terry saddle did. I thought saddle rails were universal and should fit any seatpost. What's going on here? Does it matter if it's a mountain or road saddle?

I don't know the saddle you are wanting to install. But any late model seat should fit a late model seat post. Go back to the store and look at another seat of the same make and model. See if your seat rails are bent.

It's funny, i just got a NOS Vetta Lite saddle, which has a manufacturing date some time in 1991 stamped on the bottom. Its rails are narrower than my seatpost's grooves by a good bit, maybe a quarter inch. I forced it in, but the rails are pushing out the sides of the saddle..

I also didn't know there were different saddle rail widths, but apparently there are?

Sometimes they will be off a tiny bit, but when you start to clamp the post down it will draw the rails in or out into the grooves.

The rails on the saddle I got didn't draw when I did this. I had to tighten it really hard and eventually the clamp deformed to sorta meet the rails. I stripped the clamp bolt in the process. Do you think this is dangerous? I'm wondering if I should replace any or all of the following:
-stripped bolt
-saddle
-seatpost with currently deformed clamp

Well, i'm thinking that saddle rails shouldn't be that hard to pull inwards.. deforming the top of the seatpost and stripping a steel bolt makes me think that something is wrong... can you post a photo?
