Thats a good question... maybe write to a local political leader like your mayor or something and tell them you want one... they usually love building parks like that, it makes them look like they care about the community... haha... I dont know how else youd do it seeming as how expensive it is to build a decent park...

i tried contacting the mayor on the phone and he just laughed and hung up
Meet him at his house with a few friends and discuss it in person, offer to name it after him.

how many people live in your town?

Because you don't vote. If you want action, go to the right people. Bike shop owners, youth workers, even some church groups. You want the backing of people with a financial interest in promoting your sport, and also the backing of those that have a vested interest in keeping kids out of trouble. Get them behind you, then approach your city council. The mayor doesn't decide on these things, the city council does.

I don't beleive that. Unless you live in hic-town usa with a population of 20.
Give everyone you know his # and tell them to call him and ask for a skatepark, Even if they don't ride. If he doens't see that you guys want a park after the 50th call, then atleast you'll piss him off.

I tried contacting our town mayor, but he kept forgeting to call me back, and all this other garbage. So I went to the Park and recreation commision and the city council, and within a month we had a big lot set aside for us to build dirt jumps. So, like Expatriate said call or e-mail city council or Park and rec commision.
whatever you do, make sure you look good and present yourslef in a profesional fashion or they will not take you seriusly at all. dont use slang, refer to them with respect, and you might have a shot.

about 2000+. it is geting bigger
Good luck. I doubt your town has enough revenue to spend much on a park. If you're lucky, you can get some dirt jumps.

are you kidding me? the town just spent 2,000,000+ on a seinor center.
Seniors vote, kids don't. A senior center attracts people with money, a skate/BMX park does not.

Our city started constructing a huge park about a year ago. It was finished a few months ago - turned out to be one of the unexpected benefits of moving to Texas. Pictures of the park are at http://www.allenparks.org/Allen_Station_ParkII.htm. You need to do some research and see if there are any studies available to show that cities that build good skate/bike parks are less prone to property damage, etc. when the kids have a place to ride. Gather that information and make a formal presentation folder for the Mayor and City Council; also find out the names of your city's council members and ask them for thier support; take the time to show them the information you've gathered (make several copies) and let them think about it. I believe Tony Hawk's Hawk Foundation used to offer grants to cities to build skate parks using architects recommended by the Hawk Foundation (basically, kids will ride it only if it's cool; if it sucks, they'll keep riding downtown).
Our park is one of the largest public skateparks in Texas and also has a dirt-track for BMX and two roller-hockey rinks, and a youth center.
Good luck.
Good advice from a noob. I'm kind of shocked. I'm guessing RobertB is older than 14.
