Has anyone ever had any experience with the Fuji Team bike.
The website lists it as weighing 16.8 pounds.

They list the aluminum as being "X-Fusion Alpha custom butted Metal Matrix composite alloy"

http://www.fujibikes.com/2002/usa/html/main/frameset.htm
Above is the link.

It comes with full Ultegra and Ritchey Pro stem, handlebars and seatpost.
The wheels are Ritchey Zero System OCR Pro Road.

I had read a review once about it that said that it should only be used by lighter riders.
I weight about 180. Does that make me a light rider or heavy? I don't really pound the pedals much. I am more of a consistant fast speed rider.

Anyways, Please let me know what your opinions are of this bike.
Thanks very much in advance!http://www.bikepathoutfitters.com/images/2002_FUJI_TEAM.jpg

Fiji are good bang for the Buck. WWW.bikesdirect.com is selling the team Al or the Marseille 853 steel with ultegra for $1095. Good deal if you know what you want and your size.

to answer your question,
180 makes you a heavier rider- if you are looking at racers. The bike is great and really lightweight.

This frame would suit you fine. It won't break or anything! Smooth or grinder, the frame is solid and won't flex on you. The only stupid thing is the stickers on the seatstays that say "race design" or something like that.

I am trying to decide between this bike and the Raleigh R700.
It has the full Ultegra group as well and comes with Shimano R535 wheelset. I think that is a lower end wheelset?.
The R700 I think looks betterhttp://www.bicyclefun.com/Raleigh%20Pictures/Raleigh%202k2%20bikes/2002%20Raleigh%20R700.jpg
but weighs 19.25 lbs, considerably heavier than the Fuji. I had also read that with the R700 , they scrimped on cheaper stem, bars and seatpost, while the Fuji is all Ritchey Pro. Which one would you choose?

This will be my first serious road bike and I want to get a good one!
Anymore info on the Fuji Team is GREATLY Appreciated!

The Fuji is better equipped. Looks like the r700 skimmped on the other parts as you say. Yes, the wheels are cheaper on the r700.
The alloy crown carbon fork is cheap- probably Kinesis. The STI levers are the old design, they are not the new (like the Fuji's)- which is a little confusing. Is that an old picture or are they using 2 year old new stock?

The r700 is a triple crank with long cage rear derailleur-- touring setup if you are leaning that way. The Fuji is more "race ready" with the double and short cage rear derailleur.

I like the r700 paint better too. They are different bikes. I would go with the Fuji for the overall better spec'd parts, light/good frame (I know this personally) and race setup.
If you need the wider gearing, go with the r700.

There is a difference between a road triple and a touring triple. And just because it has a triple does not imply touring or 'lead sled'.

omg
stay away from the Raleigh

Who cares what the Raleigh is specced with...the frame is probably crap

Another unfounded generalization, no doubt?

Ive seen a 4 of the r700 framesets on ebay in the same color - going for as low as 206 and high 250.

I have pretty much decided that I am going to go with the Fuji Team. I'm just a bit nervous because I haven't heard very much about it...
Anyone else out there have any experience or have heard anything about the Fuji Team?
Thanks again.

I purchased a Fuji Team frame this spring and built it up with an Ultegra drivetrain (from my old bike). It came with a Kinesis Carbon 2 fork with an alloy steerer.

I have about 2,000 miles on it since June, and raced it several times this summer. It never held me back.

The frame is light, but not flexy (thank you aluminum). It climbs and sprints well. Ride quality is average and would be rough without the carbon fork. If I lived where it was flat, or didn't plan to race I would choose the Fuji Roubaix with its 853 steel frame over the Team. The paint quality is not too hot. It nicks and dings easily, and is by far the weakest link.

I almost bought a Fuji Team in Dallas at Jack Johnston's Bicycles but ended up buying a Fuji Roubaix-Pro instead.

Jack Johnston (experienced racer, elder statesman, humble, generous fellow) said, and I quote: "The Fuji Team will do everything my LightSpeed will do. It is a rare bike and much sought after."

We phoned the Chicago distributor looking for a Team in my size. They had 8 left. That was nationwide. "See what I mean?" Jack said. "Think about it, but you'd better order one in the next couple of days."

I almost did, but then I spotted the Roubaix-Pro sitting there in the showroom, calling to me. I don't race; I ride 10 miles a day on rolling terrain, fairly fast, with a buddy who rides a Klein. I decided I liked steel better and was willing to sacrifice a few pounds of weight for a smooter ride.

As for the Team, though, sounds like it got a sound endorsement.

I have a Fuji mtb. It's rock solid. I also have a Raleigh R700. It's very nice too. I got my R700 for $1100.

I just did my first century on my Fuji Roubaix (X-Fusion aluminum frame/carbon fork/ and I had the Aero-bladed wheels put on it…I think they’re stock on the Team). Although I haven’t ridden on any steel frames, I did not feel the aluminum frame was that punishing (and this is in NYC streets we’re taking about). The bike was VERY responsive!

The LBS told me that the X-Fusion aluminum is much much stronger than “regular” aluminum. Not sure how true that is, but take it for what’s it worth. He said that it does not get weakened during the heating process.

Overall, in MY OPINION, the Roubaix rides smooooooothly. I have no complaints and no regrets of buying it. I actually know a person who has the Team. He loves it too. I just wished my Roubaix came in a less bland color. I’ll post some pics up after washing it this weekend.

Good luck.

I just ordered the Fuji Team from bikesdirect a few days ago. couldnt pass the price up... $1095, no shipping no tax! It'll be my first road bike. But I had to get one since I ride my mountain bike on the road more than on the trail. I'm anxiously awaiting it... it's driving me crazy

only one question. the thing won't ship until sept 15th (or thereabouts... according to bikes direct) anyone have experience with them or understand why this is? it's a 2002 bike so its not like they are waiting for the 2003 to come out. maybe they just ordered all fuji had left and have to wait fo rthem?

Wow!! That's a great price  That's about how much my Roubaix cost me. But one question for you though? How are you going to get service/fitted?

I went back to the LBS at least 10 times after getting my bike for minor adjustments/advice.

Good point. There's an awesome awesome bike shop up here.. really great guys that I'll use if I need to. But I think most of the fit i'll be able to work out myself.... hopefully. if not say I end up spending $100 on fit... still a good deal
