I was given a CoPilot Child Seat with a Blackburn EX-1 Expedition rack for my 2000 Trek 8500 (http://www.trekbikes.com/bikes/2004/mountain/8500.jsp) (17.5") mountain bike.

The problem is that the EX-1 rack seems to be designed for road bikes and the hardware that the rack comes with will not fit the frame.

Has anyone else mounted an EX-1 on a Trek mountain bike frame successfully and safely?

If so what hardware did you use and where did you find it?

It seems like it almost might fit. But the main problem at this point is the the little C or U clips that are supposed to wrap around the two bars on the rear of the frame are too small to go around the frame.

I'm wondering if a local shop my have some parts that would work.. of if anyone on the forum has done something like this before with this hardware.

I have a very similar looking rack on my Trek 4300. I think your frame will be very similar in construction. I don't know what you mean by c-clips. Those silver arms should screw right onto your frame with the existing bolts/eyelets. The bottom part should screw into some holes near your dropouts.

There was a typo in my original message. I actually have a Trek 8000. However, the frame should be the same.

Anyways, by C clips i was referring to little round strips of metal shaped to go around the two rear bars up the back. From what I can tell the two metal track bars on rack itself attach/screw into these clips.

I have a new Trek (7100 WSD) and am having the same problem- john (or anyone else!) where you able to figure this out?

Seems like, on my bike at least, the rear fork is at too low an angle to attach the rack extenders to them, but the seat stays are too skinny for the c- or u-clips. I'm itching to take my daughter out for a ride on the new bike!

Yes, I went down to the local bike shop and they had some mounting brackets that worked pretty well.
