Commuting - Getting Dark earlier.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Well I notice that dark is coming earlier now. I even had to get out my lights the other day. I've been having to work late quite a bit lately and I've been racing the dark. A week ago I knew I had to stay extra late so I brought my lights. Unfortunately I forgot the charge was low. So, I still ended up riding the last few miles in the dark! Oh well, at least my taillight was working!

Definitely been using the lights. Of course, I'm coming in at 5AM 3 days a week, but even the 7AM commute on the two days I drop my daughter off at school and bike from there are needing lights now.
Happily I now have a nicer light setup than last year (batteryspace HID+bottle battery) and I can go all week without recharging. I used to barely get one way (50 minutes) on a charge. I won't be able to go a week if it gets busy in the winter and I have to use lights both ways, but for now I'm good.

I've definitely been using the lights for a while now, though mostly in the evening. Out the door at 06:30, only needed lights once or twice (blinkies on usually these days, I mean headlight), back by 19:30-20:00, lights all or most of the way.
Last night I rode part of the way with a guy who had a headlight, but it wasn't too strong. He was happy to ride with me and my 30W bonanza. :)

I keep a backup light system at work. Nothing fancy, a TwoFish handlebar block and a small maglite, couple of blinkies.
With the approach of fall, I've been running with the light system in place. Don't use it most of the time, but it's there just in case.

It's getting to be that time. After I get back from vacation, it will be lights on for sure.

I use my lights all year long (nightshifts :D ). I also carry my charger with me sometimes, so if the charge may be low, I just plug it in at work so it's ready by the time I ride home.

I have been using lights every morning I commute. I usually leave 5AM I get to work by 6 and then shower and relax till my 7 start time. I get out by 4 PM normally but this week I have needed the lights on my way home because of working till 7 PM :(
