But a fair assessment, given the description provided. He doesn't seem to know where he even got the bike.

Sooooo???? He/she's a newbie and is just getting started. Weren't you new and unadvised at one time or did you come out of the womb knowing everything there was to know about bikes and bike related stuff? Be nice and in a nice way you can tell this person what you think about the purchase. Above all, please encourage him/her to become a responsible cyclist. That's what it's all about. It's not really about the bike (to paraphrase someone we all know and either love or hate).

I was new and didn't no anything. Then i found the search button and stopped asking questions about what bike do i have or what bike should i get because all those questions have been answered a million times before.

Did I just get a "Mom" lecture? I guess you're right though. I should point my comments at whatever school system lets students get to his age without being able to communicate effectively. That doesn't change the fact that this garage sale bike thrown together with bottom of the barrel parts is probably not worth the $25 or so someone paid for it. From his brief description, I'm sure the only saving grace is that it's too heavy to jump, saving him from landing with a broken frame.

*Disclosure*
I'm a parent of 4, and an importer/retailer of cycling components. I race BMX, and am a supporter of my local BMX track by offering gear at prices below local cost, with 10% of sales going to the track. Some kids need to be encouraged to spend a bit more time studying, not just cycling.

You are sooo right. It was a MOM Lecture. I can't lecture anymore to my own son because he's a know-it-all Cat 3 racer in CA and I'm learning from him but you've got to cut some slack to the newbies because I am sooooo one of them even though I've been riding for a year. Just be nice about how you say it. "Piece of Crap" could be said better. Like "Maybe not the best bike for you" or something in that vein. You catch my drift, right? Glad you're a good sport about my lecture. :D

Antics with semantics, I get your drift.

Resize them before you do anything. 8 inches by 10 inches by 72 pixels is plenty.

Mate, I didn't want to offend her. Yes, I was born knowing everything. I've just forgotten a lot as I got older. It will happen to you too one day.

I tell kids at the skatepark the same thing. They laugh.

"Take if from me, kids just dont understand."

My older kids just roll their eyes when I try to explain something. The youngest still gives me the wide-eyed stare, and sometimes even asks how I know so much. There's hope.

I am so chuckling right now :roflmao: No offense taken , Ex. Your reply reminds me of a Dylan song which says, "I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now." Thank you JMC for your input. I so loved it. But what happened to Mikay1814? Wonder if he's still out there. This is HIS thread, you know!

Please expain "evening morning tea". I'm really curious. I've thought about it and can't come up with anything that makes sense. So it's up to you now.

Better? I fixed it. "Tea" is a term Aussies use to confuse Yanks. You can have coffee and biscuits for morning tea. You're out for a Sunday drive, and your partner says "Let's stop for tea". Um, is that a cuppa, or is it a snack? For whatever reason, there's morning tea, and tea (dinner) but I rarely hear about afternoon tea. Lunch is in an hour. Got it?

They'll work for learning on that bike :)

Brian

Exactly. Learn on that bike, and ride the crap out of it. But avoid jumping, as without knowing the history of the frame, I wouldn't expect it to last long. Don't waste money on upgrades for that bike either.

Download Iirfanview for resizing pics, and doing many other things. But it's a small very powerful program. www.irfanview.com Most pics for uploads should be about 648x480 and under 100k in file size. Only take a few second with Irfanview.
