radioflier

My name is Ron and I had the good fortune to be able to retire at 54 (last year). It was something I had planned for 15 years. The name 'radioflier' is a reference to my main hobby - radio controlled model aircraft.
I currently do not ride, but am considering it. I have considerable time on my hands now and am looking for constructive ways to spend (invest) it. I'd like to be spending some time on the roads on a BMW cruiserbike, it just isn't possible given the situation here. My wife is disabled and cannot participate with me in any physical activities. Since I am her primarly support, I need to limit my time away from her as well as risks to my physical wellbeing.
Which brings me to cycling. I'm intrigued by the recumbents and plan to try one out as soon as I can get to a dealer. We live in a neighborhood with lots of curvey streets and some gentle hills. Neighborhoods are springing up all around us and they are connecting them together so you can ride from one to another without going on busy roads. There as some bike paths here as well. I have been walking the neighborhood but think it would be much more interesting on two wheels.
My last bike was a mid-70's Sears (free spirit?). It always felt a little squishy/wobbly/detached when I was riding, but I thought that's they way 10-speeds with skinny tires were supposed to feel. It wasn't until I got on a co-workers better quality bike that I found out just how bad mine was! I hung it on the garage ceiling and it stayed there for years until I gave it away when we moved to our new house 3 years ago.
Anyway, I'll be lurking around here gathering as much info as I can before I do anything. Heck, I may even ask a question or two!
;)
Regards,
Ron
