Hello All...
Okay, one last piece of advice before I purchase my X bike this weekend. I have finally decided on the Redline Conquest (sweet ride for the buck) and then today I find a 2005 Redline Conquest Disc-R for less than the 2006 Conquest I was planning on buying. As it is online I am unable to test the disc but hear it rides a bit different. In the end they are about the exact same price. I have heard so many opinions of disc brakes that it seems a coin toss. My mt. bike and road have vs and cantis, my new X bike will be primarily for short commutes (5 to 15 miles) and little else. I want a fun and fast ride. Any swift response would be greatly appreciated.

Best,
sally

If you live in a rain forest climate like pacific northwest consider the disc's, otherwise its not much an issue. They help in stopping when wet.

Oi! In the very hub of the northwest...it doesn't get any wetter than Olympia! Thanx for the input! By this weekend the decision will be made.

cheers!

The Disc-R has a little bit different geometry with a lower BB and sloping top tube. It would be great if you could ride both models before you decide.

Sally,
I am in the middle of the same decision-making process, except I was looking at the Conquest Pro Vs. the Conquest Disc R. My local Performance Bike had both in stock, but the salesman told me the Disc R model isn't even a cyclocross bike. He told me that is Redline's road bike offering. Redline's website description is kinda bland, so I don't now whether this salesman knew what he was talking about or not. I have now firmly set my sights on the Conquest pro, for commuting, light off road and around town. Hope this helps.

I own a Salsa Las Cruces set up with disc brakes. I'm absolutely in love with this set-up. Here are my thoughts on pros vs. cons:

Cons:
- A bit more weight

Pros:
- If you bend the rim a bit, you can still go (and stop!)
- Disc brake pads last forever (okay, not forever, buy MANY fold longer than rim pads - low maintanance)
- Far superior stopping power (even more so in wet, and ugly conditions)
- You won't risk heating up your rim, and blowing a tire on long descents
- They are just too damn cool looking! :D

A..
thanx for the input. i've uncovered the same story so i think you've been given really reliable info. there is a seller on ebay that has brand new conquest pros and you can save yourself a couple hundred $ if you don't mind putting on the pedals, bars, etc. he also has a 2005 disc-r cheap, hence the temptation. But like you I've decided on the conquest pro...heading to Portland tomorrow to pick a pretty one up!!
Cheers..

Tres magnifique! Have wanted a Salsa since buying my first mountain bike back in the eighties! In the cross they don't make a small enough framesize. Your bike is lovely...

peace...

Keep in mind the Conquest Disc-R is sloping geometry with slightly longer effective top tube length. The fit will be different.

edit: already been said.

Bac, give me your bike now! What size is it? You have to stop posting that thing, I've seen it all over these forums. Not only is it a kick ***** cyclo bike, but it is also orange, which is the best color in the world! If only the Las Cruces wasn't one million dollars....

I'll have to say that I fell in love with this machine the first time I rode it. It is really a "do-all" bike. It’s a 54 cm btw, but I have it under lock/key, and 24 hours surveillance! :D
