Mountain Biking - specialized rock hopper a1 fsr, any good?

found this bike used for $350, 2 or 3 years old, barely ridden he says.

It has
Manitu magnum front shock
Fox vanilla rear shock
Deore lx drivetrain Specialized crank, hubs
Is this bike any good?

It is definitely older than 2 - 3 years old so I'd wonder why the seller is giving an incorrect age. If you go to Specialized's site, they have bikes back to 2002...and it doesn't look like any of the Rockhoppers on there.

Review(s)? There's only one. Keep in mind that the review from November of 2000. Technology has changed a bit in the past 5 years. This dude paid $830 for his new back in 2000. So, that makes this bike 42% of the total cost of a new one. I think it's a little steep. It may be worth looking at if it was cheaper, but I'm not a big fan. Who knows if it's been barely ridden. If it's been barely ridden, it's probably been barely maintained. I'd suggest looking at a new hardtail or maybe a nicer, gently used hardtail no more than a couple of years old.

I like specialized as much as the next man.

The fork and rear chock is from a different era.

The design is fine.

The aluminum frame I am sure has taken its abuse depite the fact the the owner only rode it ''to church on sundays.''

Buy it if you must, but don't expect it to handle anything crazy like jumps and drops. It is a XC bike.

If in fact it has really never been ridden, and the parts are all in great shape, you could have some nice riding on it.

Just expect to be breaking parts and spending a lot more than the bike is worth to replace them.

Just my 2 cents. I wouldn't buy it. If you must, make him/her a lowball offer.

Got it. I didn't have all of the information at hand. In that case, I think that you might be able to get it on the cheap if you ask. Depending on what you're riding now and how low the seller is willing to go, you may be better off spending upgrading the HT you already have. Just my 2 cents.

its deff older than an 02 or its a specialized big hit like an 02 03
