I know most you guys are into trick riding stuff. But this 2005 Redline Flight Expert is a light @ 19lb fast race bike. My son is moving up from his mini and we found one of these sweet bikes at a local shop and the price is right. I just gotto do a quick cash job this weekend to pay for it. You young guys may not understand where I'm coming from, but I think some dads will here. I'M trying to give my kids the life I wanted as a kid. I wanted to race BMX and or at least have a good bike. I had a fairly good bike, but it took me years of mowing lawns and using allowance to build up a really nice bike, then I had no one to get me started racing. My son seems to enjoy it. Probably not as much as I did. I rode my bike everywhere, we don't live in an area like that. But the cool thing is it's something we do together. Riding on our own track getting ready for racing. I barely knew my father, (Finding Nemo quote) he lived out of town. So I tend to "spoil" my kids a little. Not to the point of them not appeciating things, but to the extent that I will usually help them get what they want. But they all earn their own money. My son will be installing carpet with me to help pay for the new bike. As a dad, I can't imagine not being involved in your kids lives. It's not going to be long before they are up and out and it'll be too late. On another thread a man was mentioning his 4yo son. That's so cool. You young guys, when you are parents, I hope you desire to spend as much time as possible with your kids. Since you are into BMX already, and most boys seem to show an interest in it,You will already have something you can do with them.
Well, that's about long enough isn't it? Oh, we have a mini for sale for $100 if anyones interested.

Looks like a nice bike... someone has to pass on the tradition to keep racing alive, there isn't much of it left. Thats cool that it's a father son thing too, it'll be time and money well spent.

I know exactly were your coming from.
The first few times my son raced was on his 16-inch wal-mart special.
It nearly broke my heart to spend almost $300 on a mini for a 4 year old, but I felt so bad for him out there peddling his ass of to keep up with the others on their 20"

I've seen the littlest kid on our track push his 8" bike up the jumps because he's not big enough to pedal over them.

Darin and Jerry, 2 of my kids have no interests in bikes, so count yourselves lucky. One rides his MTB everywhere, and the youngest has kind of lost interest in her MTB. I thought she had an interest in BMX, but I suspect it's only because she wants to meet boys. So what if she decides to give racing a try? You guys are good dads, and you have it easy.

I must be missing something. When you say "does it work good?" What are you asking? Is it fast? Is it light? It's super light. Not like the tank freestyle bikes. It's a racing bike, pure and simple. Not for tricks or made to take a serious beating on the trails. It has 1 3/8 rims, Alum frame, bars, cranks etc. If it doesn't win races, it wont be because the bike is the problem. :)

I've seen some girls racing at our track. I thinks it's great. Post a pic.

Here's my 10yo boy with his new bike. He's quite excited.

As long as it's the life THEY want as kids. Hard to go wrong with BMX, but man...I had some friends whose parents liked to live vicariously through them and made them go do all sorts of things they hated, then the parents would get indignant and angry at the kid for being 'ungrateful' and 'spoiled' when sh*t didn't work out.

I agree. The tendency is to steer them towards what you enjoy and see if they take it up as there own. Which is not the problem. But I can see where it would get to be a negetive thing.

Don't worry Darin you're doing the right thing. :) It's so cool as a dad to be so supportive in bmxing. Unlike my parents, they're not really supportive with my hobbies at all.

My parents weren't married, I rarely saw my dad, and we never did anything together. My mom mildly supported my hobbies in that she spent a little money to fund my hobbies, but never had any interest in shareing them with me. As my kids grew, I became more and more suprised to see other parents that had nothing in common with their kids or even spent time playing with them Years ago it was Barbies with my daughters. Then other things with my kids as they got older. Now it's horses, jet skiing, bmx etc. I guess I refuse to grow up myself. I spend endless hours play xbox and gamecube, riding my bike, jetski or wakeboarding. I tend to see my work as a way to fund my hobbies as much as provide a house and food for the family. If you're younger, I hope you see your kids as friend instead of just children when you have your own. My kids are truely my friends. 10 12 an 14 years old.

Bigger dramas down under. I have my seasoned grilled chicken and onions, and the crappy corn tortillas I bought are falling apart. I need a Baja burrito, or at least some real Mexican fajitas.

If labeling people is bad, especially people you don't know, then why did you label the people in that video as being posers when you yourself are most definitely a poser?
