rear spooky setup for bike without brake bridge - help!
hi everyone,

got a problem here...

i got some spooky's for my Felt F1X, but i'm not sure how to install them in the rear because my frame does not have a traditional rear brake bridge. the bike came with tektro cantis, if that matters.

so what can i do? am i SOL??

What is the problem? Can't you use the same cable stop that worked with the Tektro canti's?

the cable stop for the Tektros is on the side of the seat-tube, and the spookys dont have any adjustment, so one brake wwould be against the rim. the spookys beed to be pulled from the center.

I see, that is a problem.

The small size Bianchi Axis at my lbs had similar off-center cable routing, the manager at the shop was very frustrated because it didn't really work. One pad would always rub. I'm surprised the Felt is designed that way.

Does the Spooky spring engage the three little holes on the cantilever frame boss? If so, maybe selecting the top hole for the left arm and the bottom hole for the right arm, or some other combination, will give you the difference in tension that you need.

nope, that doesn't work. and i cant really use a seatpost-clamp hanger because of the way the frame is designed...the seat tube comes up pretty high, so the angle of the cables is way off.

looks like i'm stuck using the cheezy tekros, or some other link-wire style brake like the avid.

in theory it should, but it doesnt on my frame because of the way the seat tube is....check the pic

Check "CAH59 Fork Crown Housing Stop". It is made for front forks, but it might work if you can drill your seat stay bridge.

You can use the cable hanger from Nashbar. No problem. Turn the collar. It will hold, just make sure to add some grease between collar and seat tube

I am guessing that you can't turn the seat collar around otherwise you would have allready done that. What you should be able to do is buy another seat collar clamp that will be small enough to allow you to clap just on the seat post. Put it on the seat post all the way down just above the collar you allready have on there and then use the Nashbar hanger (obviously you will have the bolt in the back). It is not necessarly very pretty but will work
