I have a trek 4300 with stock wheels. Recently while fixing a flat i noticed my front bearings were grinding so i dropped both wheels off at the LBS where i purchased it to have them checked.Well they tell me the bearing cones are pitted from dirt but the bearings are fine (approx. 400 miles in 4 mos. on the bike).My question is i'm thinking about just getting a better wheelset like rhynolites or comparable and i want a good heavyduty hub with sealed bearings to limit some of the dirt getting in. Can anyone recommend a good disk wheelset with atleast an XT hub for $200 or less?

Thanks unsuspended. I did some research on those hubs and sounds like just what i'm looking for with the double contact seals. Most of my riding is near the beach so to keep from constantly replacing cones and bearings in the cheap stock hubs i want to prevent sand from getting in. I'll still have the stock ones repaired and just keep for a spare set.

New shimano hubs often have very little grease. If you pack them full of grease you can prevent the ingress of crud and they will last a lot longer. Even the lower-end Shimano hubs are adaquate for off-road riding.

While this is true imagine how much better off he'd be with the dual seals AND the extra grease. It's as easy as an overhaul
