Chicago Clothing Store Recommendations ?

This will be my first Chicago winter commuting, it the past I have gotten by with a Carhartt coat and some hooded sweatshirts, but that isn’t going to work on the bike...

I searched the forums and have a decent idea of what I need; I’m looking for recommendations on where to get it (preferably in the city (no car)).

So far I’m going to check out:

The North Face store on Michigan Ave.
REI in Niles.
Dicks in Niles.

Any ideas...

There's a Performance Bike on 2700 N. Halsted. I know some people don't care for Performance but they do have good sales. I've purchased almost all my cycling clothes from them including winter gear.

volcker: I would go to Performance and those other stores... Try the stuff on, write down the sizes and style numbers or such and then get on the WEB and find some online store that have better prices.

I have saved a ton of $$$ by doing this. Even eBay has great deals as long as you buy NEW or NEW IN BOX (NIB)

When I was in my first year of law school in Chicago a classmate picked up a rabbit fur hat that had ear flaps connected to a chin strap. Extremely warm and not restrictive in head movement. Bought some myself the following year. Location-TJ Max on State Street in the Loop in November every year, usually would sell out for the winter a couple of weeks after they started selling them and never resupplied them after November. They never carried those in their stores in warmer environs such as Indianapolis or DC or Alexandria, VA. Woolworth used to carry jumbo earmuffs but I believe they were closing the last of their stores when I graduated and left Chicago.

You can get some cheap wicking shirts there, plus some really cheap fleece jackets there. Then Performance for your windbreaker and cycling gloves and stuff.

I am in chicago too. This will be my 1st winter in Chicago. My question is more about road riding condition... How does one ride bicycle when it snows???

Get knobbies on your wheels. Or buy those studded tires. You'll be allright.
