We are putting on a new bike tour and someone wants to ride a unicycle. Does anyone know if they are allowed in other bike tours. Any suggestions would help

Entirely possible. I have 3 unicycle - the fastest is a Coker with a 36-inch wheel. I can cruise easily at 10-12 mph. According to the unicycle forums, several MS150s have been completed on Cokers. Heck, this guy even did a 50-state US tour:

Saw a unicycle on the Bike New York tour this year. Heard from someone after the ride that he finished the 42 miles.

Like most tours, riders should sign a waiver that they understand that they ride at their own risk. A properly worded waiver should cover you legally.

Other than that, why not let him join the fun?

One of the guys in my club has a brother that rode up Mt Diablo on his unicycle. I don't like hiking up that thing.

Seen the same guy on a 36" unicycle four years running in the Houston - Austin MS 150. It's the biggest one in the country, drawing 12,100 riders this year. If they allow a uni, I see no reason, other than extreme hills, not to let them in your ride.

Damn. Did he rode all the way to the top? Can't imagine anyone going the last 200 feet on a unicycle.

If I recall, the Mt. Diablo ride was done (including the last 200 feet) on a uni set up with a 700c wheel and road bike tire. He must have had some mighty long cranks on that thing. I believe it was written up in "On One Wheel" which is the official publication of the Unicycling Society of America.
