Recumbent - I will never go back to Diamond Frame Bikes!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I posted the other day that I was
looking for a 'beater bike' to ride
in the rain.

I was thinking I could maybe get
an old mtn. bike or something, but
I went out and rode a couple and
WOW, I just couldn't get into it.

Instead, I wiped the cobwebs off
my Lightning Thunderbolt today
and took it for a ride. It was the
first time i had ridden it since I had
lost a bunch of weight, but what a
great ride. I was hitting 14, 16 and 18
mph on the flats and minor grades and
that is good for me. (Non athelete at age 54.)

When I rode a mtn. bike yesterday, I was
having trouble steering the damned thing
and it acted like the front wheel was out
of round despite a visual check which showed
it to be in good shape.

I will never go back. The only thing I WILL
do is perhaps get a TRIKE or a QUAD when
I get too old to peddle a bent and keep it
upright.

I hear ya dude. I gave up onb DF bikes when I could no longer stand the related back, neck and wrist pain. A sun EZ Sport solved all the problems and it's fun to ride again. I'll never go back either. Good luck.

Yeah, bents are addicting, aren't they?

I had a mtb that did the same thing to me. It drove me to recumbency. I swore off uprights.

But earlier this year I bought DF road bike and spent quite a bit of time studying fit. I can do three hours on the DF with no pain.

I fixed the mtb with new handlebars, and it's now comfortable too.

Four bikes: two recumbent and two uprights. I'm a bi-cyclist.

Never say never. You just have a bike that doesn't fit. Uprights are truly difficult to fit properly.

I still have a very nice Bruce Gordon Rock n Road. It's gathering dust.

I can handle uprights in VERY SMALL doses. My hybrid was great for my old, short commute. Nowadays, the DF only gets ridden when the roads are too salty/sloppy for my 'good' bikes - and those are always short rides anyway.
