Hi,
I was wondering if you could clarify this for me? The New Zealand/Australian Trek Hybrid bikes are different to the ones that you get in the US. I was wondering if these are still the FX bikes or are they just a 7*00? I'll post the links...

I really wanted an FX bike but apparently these ones have suspension seatpost and front shocks and that makes me wonder if they are actually the FX models. Also, do they have trigger shifters or twist shifters?

Thanks
Sorry if this is a stupid question,
Paddy.

hi, paddy!

from my limited experience with trek bikes (almost bought a 7300 hybrid), it would appear that the three links you posted all show the hybrid version (7*00 series), opposed to the FX model that you're looking for. also, they are all substantially higher priced that comparable models here in the states.

this is the link from the american trek website:

good luck finding the bike you really want.

Thanks, but,
From what I can tell of the link you posted, the FX bikes in your link are identical to the FX bikes in the Australia website with the exception of the front suspension. They look totally different to the non-FX bikes such as the big cushy seat and teh upright handlebars on teh 7*00 series.

Thanks
Paddy.

paddy,

to be honest with you, i didn't look beyond the front suspension fork on the aussie/NZ models. an FX here in the states comes with the fixed fork, and, in my mind, that has been the primary distinguishing feature.

you're right -- the southerm hemisphere models do appear to be identical to their northern FX counterparts, aside from the front suspension fork - and the price!

on the link that you provided i clicked on fisher hybrid bikes and found the bike that i ride:

http://www.trekbikes.com.au/catalogue.cgi?rm=product&product_id=136&subcategory_id=23

here in the states, there are two models of this bike -- nirvana & nirvana S -- the suspension fork on the S-model being the only real difference.

i ride the nirvana S which is identical to the one represented in the above link as simply a 'nirvana.'

so it would appear that you folks down-under are stuck with suspension forks, whether you want them or not.
