Well because I want to use them on my bike but then I remembered some previous threads detailing that flashing blue lights can only be used by the police...?

They're so dinky I doubt any cop would stop you. That plus the fact that if you told a judge they were visabilty (and that they obviously worked because the cop saw you) the case would likely get thrown out. Unless you live in a podunk where the cops have nothing better to do you should be fine

Blue is "snow removal" here in Ontario. The only answer I got wrong on my drivers-license written exam because I'd just come back from Germany where blue means cops... ;)

Blink blue all ya' like! I don't think the OPP will care...

Oh just for the record. The HTA states that only snow removal vehicles can use flashing blue lights.. and prohibited on all other vehicles ;(

I tried the tire flys on my bike. After the first couple of rides, they would not turn on unless I hit a really big pot hole. Threw them in the trash after a week.

The cops here frown on their use. The amber and green are OK, but blue is for police and red is for fire/EMS. This is also the same police department that is suspicious of drivers that wave at them.

I've used blue LEDs on my mountain bike for about a year, mostly for fashion, but they can also give a quick-glancing motorist the "hazardous customized car coming" reflex which may prevent a pull-out-in-front, much like HID headlights.

I once tried putting blue gels over standard 20-watt halogen headlights in an effort to prevent normal-coloured headlights from being visually lost in the car headlights behind me. Results were inconclusive, so with 'canadark' time coming again I'll have to continue the experiments.

Either way, if York Region Police really start cracking down on blue lights on vehicles, they have a whole lot of groundFX and windshield-wiper LEDs on every lowered Honda in town to deal with before they get to your bike. I think they'll just be glad you bothered with any lights at all.

Where did you find blue tireflies? I even wondered into some auto-customizing shops in Pacific Mall and 1st Markham Place and could only find red.

Are tire flys those the little flashing lights that you put on your valve caps? I can buy them here in Winnipeg. I think they come in green, blue and red. Here is another place that you can buy them. www.teamestrogen.com/products.asp?pID=5105

Try MEC - they have em for about $7.00 CDN.

Not tried the tireflys but they look cool.

I run a "police bike" 50s schwinn cruiser with blue rims and blue tyreflys. I've never been hassled. I even rode the bike in a Critical Mass where police were present. No one said anything to me. I think that you can play with the inner workings to get them to stay on. They have higher price models that can be turned on and off.

Not that I like looking like a cop, but I was thinking that "ThePOLICE " written in reflective lettering, on the back of a black rain jacket would get more repect on the road.

I live in Pittsburgh PA.

I'm not from Canada, but I can't see cops cracking down on these. They look nothing like the blue strobes on police cars.

I've used a set of red/white/blue ones on a couple Pirate rides. The way them flash makes them look sorta purpleish. They work best on 26's,700's don't seem to spin fast enough most of the time to get them to work right.

FYI,I saw a British MTB mag on the newstands that came with a free set of them. Red or blue, and they even had spare batts.
