Foo - Tanning bed UV lamp for Anti-Bacterial purposes.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Ok, it's hot, it's in Texas, and I don't have a washing machine. I do hit the gym in the mornings, then run, and I do occasionally ride the bike. So my laundry hamper tends towards the biohazardish. What I want...is UV.
Now the little "black light" UV lamps are longwave UV - good for making the flourescents in detergent and toothpaste light up but not to kill germs. (Anything that kills germs causes sunburn and eye trouble.) What I'd like is a small tanning-bed bulb -- only one will do -- that I could put in my bedroom to shine on a small stand while I take my shower and shovel my breakfast. (I'd probably have it on a timer so that I don't burn the house down if I forget.) Anybody ever see anything like this?

You'd probably be better off with some biotech lab equipment.

Wouldn't it be easier to do laundry twice a week? I think the UV will cause the fibers in your clothes to break down more rapidly.
The problem with using UV to keep the smell down in your laundry basket is that it will only hit the surface. The bacteria will remain everywhere else, and you'll still have the smell. Sorry to disappoint you.

Autoclave the riding clothes at 350 degrees...
Buy more clothing and go to the laundromat more often.
Or suffer.
Autoclave the riding clothes at 350 degrees...
I bet a pressure cooker would work too.

Quarters have always worked fine for dealing with smelly clothes for me.

You can buy a washer for that kind of money.
Besides, you can kill the germs with your microwave for free.
Of course the clothes will still be disgusting..
Somebody needs to grow up.

1100 bucks buys you a badass matching washer and dryer combo. 600 can get you an okay matching washer and dryer combo. I have the Ultimate Care II and I absikytekt love it. Wash about 3 times in 2 weeks. The only bad thing is that it now helps tie me down.
Heck,
when I'm on tour half the time I wash my riding duds in the sink
and let them dry hanging over the tub.
