OK I got the Lizard Skins from Nashbar and they were nearly impossible to get on the bar ends!!! I didn't have hairspray like the package suggests to use, so I had to go buy a can. It didn't work, so I used a tiny bit of vaseline and that got them slippery enough to get on somewhat.

Anyway, I noticed that they really don't work that well. I got them for the padding they would add, unfortunatly they are not very thick. I usually grip the ends of the bar ends, putting the part of each palm (closest to the thumb) on the end of each bar.

The problem, I need padding for the very ends of the bars. Kinda of like a cushion for the bottom of the leg of a chair. I considered taking 2 stress balls and cutting a little hole in each one and popping those onto the ends but I am thinking that will look really stupid and they will slip off easily.

Any suggestions??????????????

Walking stick ferrules?

The rubber caps come in different diameters, but they're not that soft...

Depending on how thick the barends are, could you find grips that would fit over them?

What about cork??? I'd go with that; you can keep wrapping it as thick as you need, and it's easy to replace when it gets old :)

Would cork go over the very end of the bars smoothly? The very ends is where I rest my hands. Oh, by the way, I do wear gloves, but it is still not enough.

Wow, those look cool but I have the bar ends themselves, they are just hard and uncomfortable. Mine are straight and I put my hands on the very end of them. Maybe I could put closed-end grips on them??????

Hmm, those just looked soft and comfy to me. How about gel gloves? I liked your squishy rubber ball solution -- it would look pretty cool in an utilitarian way. Good luck in your search!

I really like the L-shaped barends, you can easily grip on the curved part. I haven't felt the need for any additional padding, but Martec handlebar foam might be useful if you do. It is available from http//www.terrybicycles.com (http://www.terrybicycles.com).
