General Cycling Discussion - How old are you?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I get the sense that I am an old coot compared to others on this board. Am I wrong?
I'm 41.

You're wrong.
Your poll doesn't go high enough. One member, VLAD, just celebrated 70 a week or so ago. At 41, you're still one of the "kids."

Aahh, but the real question should be how old do you feel???

Maybe I botched it up and should have created age "buckets" for the 60s and 70s ... oh well.
BTW, I am always impressed by the number of older folks who do very, very well in sponsored rides, such as centuries, etc. Very impressive.
I hope to look/feel that young when I reach that age.
One last thing: my wife will tell you that I never exceeded 18 years old !!!! I am an absolute kid. (Biking helps !!!)

I'm 30.

If your told "your wrong" when its obvious your right.....you would just go with what the other person said then right? lmao........I'm 16, and I know whats up.http://216.40.241.68/otn/realhappy/xxrotflmao.gif

Not to offend you, but if you know "whats up", you should also know the way you use the word "your" is "you're" as in:
"you're right, you're wrong"
"your dog, your mom, your shoes"
and it's "what's up" btw.
no offense.....i'm only a few years older than you.....but you should never insult people older than you.....never ever underestimate the old geezers, you might just get a rude-awakening (it has happened to me).
I would also like to notice that physical age does not always correctly correspond intellectual age.

I'm 294 in dog years
Somewhere between 9 months and 15 years in "tree years."
(The oldest tree is, what? 4000 years old?)
An advertising executive retires from a high-paying career at 53 and visits Colorado, looking for a place to start anew. She's driving through a pristine mountain pass when she sees a small trading post. Pulling her Mercedes in, she enters the log building. An older gent is standing behind the counter. She strikes up a conversation:
"Tell me, is Colorado really as good for your longevity as people have told me?"
The older gent, his youthful-looking eyes gleaming back at her and his amazingly golden, muscular body rippling under his shirt, replies, "When I first came here, I was so weak I couldn't even walk, they had to carry me. In fact, I couldn't even speak for quite a while--but look at me now!"
Supressing her amazement somewhat, the woman remarks, "Wow! You are quite fit...how long have you lived here?"
"Since I was born, dear."

I'm rather pleased to report that I once again lived another year during which I rode at least 100 miles for every year of my age. In fact, I passed the necessary 5100 miles with three weeks to spare.
I am going to have to get a better jump on things for the next 12 months, though. We may not have such fine riding weather this coming year as we've been having.

That is correct. I feel old for my age of 16. I feel that way for many reasons, including talking about how things were better "back in the day" when I wasn't even alive. (I'm "old school" I guess  )

If I ever judged people by age, it was that type of age, rather than physical age. :)

Guess I'm a baby then?
I'm only 15, turning 16 this December 2nd. I personally feel that I'm young and wish to be young. I always behave like a younger brother to all my friends born in the same year, 1986.
41 and I can't quite believe it. Still I like being this age. I'm pretty fit, have fulfilled Rich's criteria re 100 miles for every year and I don't take any nonsense from anyone.
Age brings security in who you are.
And I can remember the Golden age of biking (10 speed "racers" with shorty mudguards ) :)
24, fitter than I've ever been, but still not very fit!
I don't feel very old, but I'm in the process of buying a house and that's making me feel older!

I'm 54, and feel very young when I swing a leg over a bike, feel not-quite-so young after getting to the top of Old La Honda Road in 24:37, and positively ancient when I reflect on the fact that I'll be a stepgreatgrandparent before my next birthday.
I'm 27, and can't quite believe it :o
Having just bought a house Ellie, I can tell you that I do feel alot older now :p

I'm 47, (but my kids will tell you I don't act like it). But folks, look at the results of this poll...Quite surprising, and awesome! We are pretty evenly spread across the age-range. That IS REALLY Cool!
Cycling is for ALL ages!
OK I just got a lecture about this the other day from my co-workers. I am 27, I have long hair, I cycle, I do things that I did when I was a teenager (except for stay up late). I love cartoons, I love to color (with crayons), I love to go to the toy store. Ever since I was a teenager people were telling me how "mature" I was for my age. HAH!
One of the gals at work said, "Isn't it about time that you cut your hair? Your getting a little old for that. " When I crashed the other day she said, "Here we go again, trying to act like a teenager." I figure that maybe she is jealous. The gal that trims my hair said I was one of the few people that can continue to "pull off the long hair look". What the hell????? I feel young, I look young, I am not in the grave yet. Gimme a break!!!!!!!!!!!
I also like to admire good looking men, and one of the gals at work said, "Your married, you shouldn't be doing that."
My response, "I am married, not buried.":D

I will soon be boarding the one-way express to the fine state of 30.
The calendar says I'm 36. In my minds eye, I look the same as when I was 21 - so when I see the gray at the temples in the morning when I'm shaving it sort of freaks me out.
The only times I feel older than my age are 1) getting out of bed the day after a monster ride, when things don't easily bend where they should :irritated, and 2) when my wife is out of town and I'm doing the solo dad thing. One of the kids will invariably zig while the other zags, and I will end up smaking into something in between while they both get away to continue their mischief .

ME TOO!
All my childhood, people told me how mature I was for my age. (In fact, I was rather like a prudish little old lady as a child.) Now, I too like cartoons, cartooning, computer games, biking, children's books, and all that 'kid stuff.' The lectures started when I was 30. "You're going backpacking? Camping? Aren't you a little old for that?" "Video games? When are you going to grow up?" "Why are you getting a new bike? You won't ride it much -- after all, you're not a kid any more."
Who made the rule that after 30, your only fun is supposed to come from sex, booze, and television?

I could say the same exact thing, except I'm 32 and still stay up late. And being a musician, I can use my arrested state of development as a sort of career enhancement.
Me. I'm 48 and nearly died from diabetic coma when I was 46. I survived. I clawed my way back from emaciation and I now have a level of fitness I think I last had when I was 30. My head computer has always been stuck in the groove in the mid-20s. I like where I am just fine.

Twenty-one. Look the same as I did when I was sixteen, and everyone thought I was twenty-five then. They still do.
Well, I'm fitter now, thanks to the LBS...helping me lighten both my bod and my wallet at the same time.
That's not a bad thing. :D

I'm 31. I was at a restaurant the other day and they carded me, I'd forgotten my wallet and the waitress insisted that I didn't look anything close to 31. I guess this thread proves that cycling is the fountain of youth.
I'm 47 and 78 miles short of 10,000 miles since Jan 1, 2002. I ride everywhere, anywhere and all of the time. Crazy? maybe. Fit? definetly
I'm 39 and still act like a big kid.

I'm 33, having kids makes me feel a little older but the Biking makes me feel a little younger,.
So it all balances out. (I Hope)
I'm 35 but my "body age" is 30 according to this online health survey I took recently. I'd imagine that most of us on this forum are younger than their chronolgical age.

I am 25 and hoping 30 is everything I have heard it is, because being in my twenties sucks. Plus, maybe then I stop being the baby of the group.
