I'm planning a restoration of a 70s racer. It's going to be first generation Dura Ace equipped.
Besides the derailleurs, at this point I'm only missing the headset; I reckon it's almost impossible to find a good one. Besides having the good fortune to walk into NOS somewhere of course.
So I scratched my head and started looking around for alternatives. Everyone knows the steel Tange Levin, a Campy Record copy, and still available. But, leafing through an old catalogue I found the Tange Ritzy, an alloy Super Record imitation. Very nice looking, and great name of course.
So, does anyone remember the Ritzy? I googled some, only one or two Japanese hits turned up. Difficult to understand that's for sure!
Anyone know more about the Ritzy, like how does it perform in real life, why is it so obscure (and therefore attractive)? And if you have one lying around unused ...
Edit: I've attached a scan of the page of the 1981 Ron Kitching catalogue where the Ritzy featured.

I don't know the Ritzy, but other period alternatives may be the steel Stronglight, the Zeus Gran Sport, or the OMAS... The OMAS was popular as an early aluminum alloy alternative (less costly) to Super Record. I'm not sure the OMAS was around in '76 when the first DA group appeared, but maybe soon after. The first Dura-Ace was still all steel, BTW. If you're not needing perfectly period correct, there's a used second generation Dura-Ace alloy headset on eBay right now (I just listed it).

I've put a pic in my earlier post, so now you know what it looks like! Well, kind of.
Since I've decided on hanging first generation DA on the Zieleman (that's the one: http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/album143), the least I can do is to use Japanese stuff, if the DA is too hard to get. So no Stronglight or OMAS (ah, very nice!).
I know the first DA was all-steel, but I'm going to use one of those milled and fluted SR seatposts (PISL they were called), so another lightweight part will suit me fine. I have the matching SR stem, but it's too short. A problem I can't avoid are the gearlevers: first generation DA were only supplied as clamp-on I believe, and the frame has brazed-on bosses.
And another thing, I have an almost complete group of second generation DA (EX), 6-speed cassette and all, and it's just not as nice as the first DA. But that's just me!

I just put some of those DA levers on brazed-on bosses. Take the shifters off and drive out the little stop pin from each lever. You can then use 'em on Campagnolo bosses with one of the Campagnolo round plastic pieces behind the DA lever.
You wont have a stop to rest the lever on when pushed back towards the down tube, but you don't need it either. Take a close look at your shifters, and you'll see how to do it.

It seems like you're a couple of steps ahead of me! Thanks for that suggestion.
Wow, those black DA parts really look nice, probably NOS! :)
I have a stack of black DA parts too, but it's very weather beaten, so much so that on some parts the anodizing is completely faded. And that won't look good on a freshly painted frame.
So, what seatpost do you use? (I hope it's not a Laprade!!)

Those parts were used, but nicely kept. I cleaned 'em up a little for this build.
For the seatpost, I'm not sure yet... I haven't even measured the seat tube. I'll have to check it pretty soon though, but I wanted to get the wheels built next. Sadly, I don't have black DA hubs; just the plain anodized ones.
