Army. 1976 to 1982. Missed all major conflicts. Stationed in Kansas, Georgia, Germany (2 tours).

Now I'm back home in the land of green grass and high tides. God's Country. Oregon. Go Ducks!

Navy

Found out the hard way, that it is not a harassment free (and all the related assumptions that one usually takes for granted). Career was ended unexpectedly due to that.

Retired Air Force. Deployed to the land of sand four times during my career--it's one of the reasons I didn't stick around after 20--looks like we'll be in that part of the world for a long time.

Germany was the best for cycling--rode into France a few times. Beautiful! And I got to see one stage of the TDF up close.

Retired in Texas and will likely stay--I can ride year-round with only one or two days of ice :)

USAF Reserve - been in for 2 and a half years. I haven't been deployed as of yet, but I have no doubt it'll come eventually.

Retired 5 years ago after nearly 27 years in the Air Force. Like some who have posted in this thread I have been all over the world, some pleasant, some not so. Northern Italy was my favorite of all places to ride. Maybe I'll get back there sometime as a DODDS teacher...that would be nice! :)

Navy. Almost 28 years now, 9 years Active Duty & the rest Reserves.

Thinkin' about joining the Air National Guard. They'll let you drill until age 60, whereas the Navy has a limit on how many years you can serve.

Active Navy - just over 18 years. Cruised in USS John F. Kennedy twicel; Desert Shield/Storm, Bosnia and deployed to Incirlik AB, Turkey for 6 months for ONW. Been stationed in WA, FL, TX and now here. Been to ports all over the Med and bases all over the US, including Alaska. Not sure how long I'm sticking around - at least 3 more years - owe that for my most recent promotion... :D

That and you're close to retirement :p Figure if you go 15+ years might as well take the 20 for that automatic retirement check.

USMC - 10 years, I'd be hitting 30 in 2006 if I hadn't grown up and got out to assume the rank of PFC (Private F__in Citizen). Recon on my first hitch when I was still young and thought I was John Wayne, crossed to Air on my second (swing with the wing). Got around a bit, even to a few places I would have prefered to avoid.

I loved riding in Japan, but the 'coolest' was on the Midway - we had a 'duty bike', an old steel benjo bomber someone stole while in port, years before I ever set foot on that tub. We used to ride laps around the flight deck. Even rigged it with an arresting hook once...it didn't go as planned. ;)

Not sure what transition you mean?

Having many miles under my sneakers running circles, ducking tiedown chains, high stepping arresting cables and trying not to slip on the accumulated grease and jet fuel, I'd say it wouldn't be much fun at all. But that's just me....

Recently retired Marine Corps.

Now I'm working for the VA processing claims.

That should get me a few personal messages.

Army reserve 3 1/2 years. Got deployed to Ft. Lewis for 3 months as backfill 2 years ago. I would still be in except that I was medically discharged due to a heart rhythm problem.

Seems as though you forgot one service...the U.S. Coast Guard.

I've been serving since 1991.

U.S. Navy 1981-1986. Spent lots of time in schools in San Diego area, then was on USS Goldsborough (DDG-20, homeported Pearl Harbor) through much of a long overhaul and all the ensuing certifications.
