Hey,

Growing tired of waiting for the Ultimate consumer stand to come off backorder and am looking for a reasonably-priced alternative. I found this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7187601134) on Ebay, but am somewhat leery since there doesn't seem to be any info about this stand anywhere else on the web but in this person's listing.

Does anyone here have any experience with this stand, either pro or con?

Thanks,
-Bob

Well, I couldn't find anything on Google either, but I did find this:

Vuelta USA (http://www.vueltausa.com/vuelta2/home.asp)

Funny thing is, there's no sign of a bike on their site...

/suspicious on this one... Maybe for a good reason.

Vuelta makes some really nice hoops. If you've never heard of them, you must be new to cycling. Google Vuelta Excalibur and see what you get.

Hope you can get this one. I have the consumer model and love it... OHB

i'm biased, since i was raised on the Park PRS-2, but it looks like it has a shedload of plastic in the clamp and pivot. that in itself would make me leery.

There's very little steel on my Ultimate, and it's lasted for years, even with the tandem.

I doubt it's the same Vuelta as the rim maker.

It looks like the same base as the Minoura RS4000 and a different head unit. It's probably adequate but not in any way heavy duty. The way the head is attached to the base looks a bit flimsy to me.

The price was just reduced last weekend to $129.93.

With the $20 coupon that went into effect today, I ordered it for only $109.93.

Coupon code "FABCM" valid Oct 20th through November 17, 2005.

I just confirmed with Ultimate that the REI-Outlet stand is equal to the BRS-80R Pro Repair Stand. He said that they are getting many call about this item. He suggested that if there are any left that it's a great buy! I had already ordered one using coupon code FABCM. (-$20) Also REI online cust service confirmed that coupon code FABCC also works the same.

Thanks for the heads-up folks.

Thanks for the update. That stand is worth it at full price.

Just ordered one of these. Blindly based on suggestions here and the great reviews at roadbikereview.com. Gonna get it next Saturday. My current and only workstand is a Persons display/repair stand that lifts the rear wheel off the ground. It's been my little friend for the last 20 years.

Okay, I picked up my stand and took it home. Took it out of the box, set it up and this thing is HUGE! Very nice stand indeed. Quality reminds me of my 1upUSA trainer. I can walk under (barely) the horizontal bike clamp when the stand is at it's full height. Yao Ming would love this thing for his mountain bike.
