Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Is your bike a built on a conversion or track/fixie/SS frame?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

The idea for this poll was spawned from the conversation in another thread.
Is your CURRENT bike's frame a road, MTB, or other style frame converted for fixie/SS use
OR
Is your CURRENT bike's frame a dedicated track, fixie, or single-speed frame?
Please don't vote for old bikes, just the bike you are riding right now.
For those with multiple bikes:
Since the poll engine won't support voting multiple times, vote for your #1 bike. It's up to you what makes it your #1 bike.

You might edit this and make it into a poll, so we can actually see cumulative results.
I ride a great conversion, though whenever I can afford it I'll add a custom track bike to the stable. Sorry if I seemed irked in the other thread.
No poll, buddy...I like the idea though.

my first fix was a conversion, built on the frame of the first 'real' bike i owned (performance strada. pure 80's baby!)
my current 3 are all track frames.

No harm done. I was asking for it with that rant. Sorry if I rubbed you (or others) the wrong way.

My road frame is a conversion, and yes I fished it out from some one's trash pile :)
The mountain bike is a dedicated single speed (Bianchi DISS)
now, would forum be a good representation of the population of riders out there?
Either way, it would be good to shine some light.

There's no all of the above option.

My first fixie was a conversion passed down to me from my mother. I love it - it fits perfectly, and rides hard and fast.
Then I bought a track bike, and yet quickly sold said track bike because i preferred the geometry of my conversion.
So still riding my conversion. No $500 track bike would be as good. Not until I can afford a custom fit will I switch.

I build conversions for the simple reason of recycling. 80's steel bikes are the sh1t and are being thrown away because someone watched Lance this year and rushed out to drop 3k on a CF bike. These bike are yearning to be riden not hung up in a garage or a shop gathering dust.
First fix was a track bike, current fix is a conversion, the next bike is being built, another track frame but with wicked awesome components. I'm expecting great things, if so, the conversion gets handed down to my dad who has expressed a lot of interest in my bike lately.
I think it really depends on the application. My main ride right now is track, but I'll be building a conversion for winter. If I was touring, it would probably be a conversion as well. I have a geared MTB that doesn't get much use, and that might end up getting turned into a SS.
What was it Hameye(?) said? All that matters is that you love the bike you ride.

The one I am riding now is a converted Univega Maximo Sport from the early 80's. I have bought a new Kogswell G frame and will put it together over the winter as parts come my way.

80's steel. Seattle winter weather and a nice track frame wouldn't feel right.
Something else is lurking in pieces though :evil laugh:

The bike that I ride is a converted '55 Wearwell road bike.

Wow, dead even split right now, 44 of each. All my SS/fixes are roadies converted, mostly because track frames are a rarity up here. Oh, to live in SF/NYC...

WOW. As of my voting, the two catagories are neck in neck. 46 vote for each. I'm The Equalizer. Sweet.
[Edit] I see someone beat me to the Equalizer position. Bummer

I have a track frame right now. I do have a 2000 Univega Modo Volare that is begging to be converted. When I get some time to evaluate the bike, if I find out the existing components are crap, I will convert it instead of shelling out big bucks on new Campy components.
I converted my mtb first, rode that for a while (32x16), got a fuji Track, and then changed the gearing on the mtb (47x16) so my friend could keep up with it.
I'm gonna build up a schwinn gaspipe conversion to use as a daily.
I'll swing from both sides of the plate on this one.
Three are conversions: Raliegh 3spd, Slingshot, and my Marinoni TT.
Two are purebreds: Paramount track and IRO Jamie Roy (fat-tire fixie)
All are loved, all are ridden, each has it's own niche.

time to bring some hostility into this thread...
i ride a converted trashy peugeot with a stuffed viking on the front... but what ive found "interesting" is how some folks with the flashy parts dont have the know how to work on their own bikes.
my ass would be on the street if my girlfriend of 2 years asks me what her favorite food is and im like... gee i dont know. let me check with my pals in the forum.
LBS' are great but get to know her(or him) before she breaks. she will thank you.

If this was directed towards me from another thread. Please don't mistake not liking to work on a bike with not knowing how to work on a bike.

Leave the hostility at home and stay on topic.

I'm on a road bike that's had track ends welded on... which way does that count?

If you converted it from a road bike to fixie, the it's safe to call it "converted".
Nice job going the extra step to switch the dropouts.

i know the difference between the two... however i couldnt resist putting a little heat behind my comment. nothing personal against you or anyone else. i float on and off depending on my mood and rarely recognize profiles.
Nice. I like that red chain.
