Does anybody like the XO1?

Hi,

Just rode in my first two CX races, they were fantastic, and its pretty much all I can think about now.

Naturally I am looking at everyone elses rides, and there are loads of Jake the Snakes, some Poprads, Redlines, Axis' and so on. And then of course the $2000+ crowd...

Not many XO1's tho, and that is what I have - I think its pretty great and was perfect in those first races despite loads of mud, rain and so on. I put Race Lites on it, 959's, Tomson Elite and so on. Feels great.

The new ones have all 105 (apparently they used to spec w/ Tiagra) and Bontrager Select Wheels, seat, stem, post etc.

Is anyone else enjoying this bike like I am?

I'm enjoying a Cannondale Cyclocross, but it sounds like you are not only enjoying your Trek, but your Trek is also doing a fine job for you. Don't worry about the parts selection, that is gonna change the more you race your bike. The Trek has a solid frame and fork, and that is the most important thing. Plus, Trek has some of the best R&D around, so relax and enjoy your ride.

I looked at the X01 some time ago and liked it. I bought something else because I don't have a good local Trek dealer and but I do have a good Raleigh dealer.

I recommend the Raleigh but certainly there's not much difference between any of the local crop of CX bikes.

As for components: 105 used to be the testing group for all of the upgrades that would end up in Ultegra and DuraAce. I much preferred 105 until they set the price within a smidgen of Ultegra.

I think the X01 went through some tough times. This is strictly my opinion based on what I have seen. The 2000 year was the last year they seemed to be real cx bikes and then they went to a more commuter touring type set up with cheaper components. Then in 2005 they seemed to be back to cx again. I think because of the surging popularity of cx in th US. I have a 2000 frame and its built like a tank. I am using campy wheels with shimano barcons so its a mutt for sure but handles a cross course very well so far.

I just bought a 2006 X01 and couldnt be happier with it!!!!! maybe later ill figure out how to post a pic. as for now its off to the trails. I have about an hour and a half till sunset

Hey, thanks for your input. Glad to know some of the rest of you are enjoying its matte black badness:) I'm going to accent it with one of those cool pink Chris King headsets. Oh yeah! I'm sure THAT will make me faster;)
Next race is not this week but the next, can't wait!

I have the 2001 version. I got it off ebay & the original owner upgraded the her to Ultegra. I really love my bike & have fun with her at the races! I have been looking att he matte black of one of recent & saw one up close at the last race.

Just love my Xo.I've geeked it out with fenders (black naturally)and black cages.With a simple swap of wheels I can do rail trails,some mtn bike trails in the Gatineaus and with road wheels it becomes a fun road bike.My girlfriend liked the matte black so much that she bought the 06 model to compliment my 05.Sure there are probably better bikes out there but I'm quite content with the stealth look.

I just got my xo1 (2006 model) about a month ago or so and have put a couple hundred miles on it to date. I ride mtb trails, gravel paths and road, all in one ride and it kicks ass!!! I found the xo1 to be the best 'out of the box' deal, so to say. All components on the 2006 are a shimano 105 and bontrager select/race mix... I don't race cyclocross but have been kicking the crap out of the bike and it's holding up just fine... very fast off road too. I love it and couldn't have made a better decision. If it got stolen or I launched it off a cliff I'd go right out and by another one without even thinking twice. I test rode the Cannondale cyclocross w/ disc brakes and found it to be very uncomfortable on the road. The only thing I would like to see changed would be the avid shorty 4's upgraded to something a little better... basically they get the job done (the bike stops), but I feel like they're a little soft, even after adjusting the tension and whatnot. Maybe after the cables stretch they'll settle in, but we'll see (brakes could be upgraded on the stock is what I'm saying... it is a $1200 bike). Back to the xo1... the frame is strong and comfortable to ride. I put 48 miles of road wear on it the 2nd day I took it out... outstanding ride. Next I put 36 miles of all trail and gravel paths on it - this bike loves the woods! Everything about the xo1 itself is top notch for anyone into cyclocross or just wants a really tough, go anywhere bike. The biggest plus... It's fun to ride!! Isn't that what it's all about anyway?! (and no I don't work for Trek... I'm just an extremely satisfied consumer :) )

I'll also throw in my positive vibe on the XO-1. I have an 06 I picked up in August. I've put a few hundred miles on it - on and off road. Everyone that rides it - loves it. Componentry is good and solid. Its race ready, if that is your thing. Could you upgrade - well sure - but what bike couldn't be upgraded? there is always something better!

As far as what others are using - I was at a race here in MA last weekend and honestly there was no majority manufacturer represented. Some Trek, Redline, Salsa, Kona, Raleigh, Specialized, Felt, high end custom stuff....

I've got absolutly no regrets on buying my Trek. If you love riding it - and you say you do - its all good!

Hmm, after four CX bikes I have to admit that the one with the Avid Shorties was the one that felt the most solid.
