Again, no need for a new bike.

Well, sure, but if no one had bought a new bike since the first used bikes came on the market, we'd all be discussing repair of 130 year old high wheelers!

I'm watching the local Craig's List for a good deal on an Electra Amsterdam Sport 3 Custom, but for now I'm off for a ride on the '73 Varsity I scored from the alley on large trash pick-up day.

Best,

Methuselah is remembered for not dying. I think perhaps you mean Lazarus (Gospel of John, chapter 11).

Odd to me some of the over 50 crowd has their knickers in such a twist over a patient, considered discussion.

Best,
tcs

The Duracells in his trip computer were not standard issue.

PS I'm 42 so I'm afraid nobody has issued me knickers yet ;)

The Rans looks ugly to some but riding one is addictive. Nothing else goes as fast and it has to do with the CF design. Moving the seatpost back and lengthening the wheelbase keep the bike stable and also provide more efficient use of one's muscles in powering the bike on the pedals. And an efficient bike is also a fun bike to ride.

You'd be surprised how many threads take on Methuselah's reputation! ;)

Maybe because it's right on top when you google "Elctra Twnie" (purposely misspelled) as noted by someone in July 2007.

It's funny. There are companies out there that advise on how to get your name to the top of a Google search. BF did it without even trying!

If any one is in the market for flat foot technology definitely buy a Townie. I bought a Townie Balloon 8i about a year ago and just love it. Its a quality made bike that will last for years. Just today my 11 year old daughter bought a Townie original 7D in pink. We visited over 10 bike shops and she rode probably 25 different bikes before deciding on the 7D. She has been riding it all day even though it has been raining. While I'm not a bike expert in testing over 25 bikes my daughter could not find one competitive flat foot bike that was as confortable and well built and neither could I.

Love The Townie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, it's not a record. But there seems to be a bit of a trend at the moment in dredging up old threads by newbies. A thread elsewhere was locked down almost immediately by a mod, and so should this one be.

The Electra tactic back in the day was to have shrillsters come on here and tell everyone how good the bikes were. Seems business might be going slowly.

.. Rod Serling walks out of the shadows,, "Respectfully submitted for your approval, an old thread. The forum members thought they were safe, but unknown to them, this thread is no ordinary thread. This thread will take them into the darkest part, of the Twilight Zone!". Sorry, couldn't resist.

Yeah the newbies can't win, if they ask a question they are told to " use the search funtion ", when they do and respond to a thread they find interesting they are ribbed about opening old threads. I don't mind either, some topics are well worth re-visiting from time to time and if I find somehting I'm not interested in I just don't open it.

Soi what's the harm of bringing up an old post? I've seen people get chided for not using the search button, and then when they do, they get scolded for bringing up an old thread. I don't get it.

IMHO most of the stuff the OP complained about should have been taken care of by his LBS. The only fair accusations against the Townie were that it is clunky.
