Last year Rishi Grewal was expected, but failed to show. Steve Tilford won the 40 miler. It's fun to watch the pros come out and play.

I wish I could be there this year. It'd be a blast to see LeMond.

Anyone who does go, keep an eye on my homie John Devine. He is the top ranked junior in the US. He won last year's Short and Fat, and acquited himself well in the Dirt Crit, placing 1st in his age class and 4th in the overall race against a tough field.

I didn't mean to dis Rishi Grewal, by the way. Iwas disappointed that he didn't show up is all. I'm sure that he had his reasons. I nearly didn't make it myself last year, as close as it was to the tragic day 9-11-01.

How was the race, Cipher? Did you race?

And, Regularguy, did you race last year when you went? Win anything?

Lemond was a DNF. Mechanical problems with ten miles to go.:(

Believe me, Greg had NO intensions of traveling all the way up to Hayward, WI. to DNF at the 10 mile mark. He has done a great deal of riding this summer, (Most of it at altitude in the mountians at his place outside Bozeman, MT). He's very fit now, maybe not like his TDF racing days, but he would have turned some heads had he been able to finish...

:lol: Yeah, I'm from Montana. My uncle is the architect that designed his house. Big Sky is beautiful - great riding to, I suspect he could have sailed around that course if he wanted to. Isn't Lemond a Trek product?

Greg had a friend who drove back from Montana, Jeff, (forget his last name) who rode in the race with him. I know he is an architect. I thought it was he who designed the fire tower, and main home for them. (Just an assumption on my part, guess not). Jeff Bradley came up from the Quad cities, hooked up with Greg and raced. (Think he finished around 100, 110).

Trek builds Lemond bikes to Gregs specs. Don't know all the specifics, but Greg is involved with all the decisions reguarding bikes bearing his name...

It must have been my uncles partner. I've been pushing him for swag but I didn't know they were that tight. He has a signed jersey and some photos in his office - maybe I'll just help myself next time. :D

This explains why I couldn't find him in the online results. Does anyone know the nature of the mechanical? It must have been pretty catastrophic to keep him from finishing.

Wish I'd been there. The Chequamegon is a great event.
