Cyclocross - budget-priced, decent quality, disc-compatible frame?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
do they exist?
i want to build a cross bike for a town bike, and to ride some unpaved local trails that aren't hardcore enough to drag out my MTB. i'm hooked on disc brakes after upgrading my MTB, so i really want the all-weather stopping power.
i'm trying to do this relatively cheaply, using pulled parts from my road bike for a lot of stuff. so i'd like to find a frame that won't break me, pricewise.
corollary question:
any disc hubs with Campy splines? 'cause i'm going to be pulling Campagnolo stuff off the road bike.
corollary to the corollary question:
if i can't find a Campy splined disc hub, i was thinking of using an XT rear mech with a Jtek Shiftmate (http://www.jtekengineering.com/shiftmate.htm). anybody have any expirience with a similar setup?

really your only choice is the surly crosscheck.
i like the Cross-Check. one big problem: no disc braze-ons.
I just got a Nashbar catalog that list cyclocross frame with disc mounts and 135mm spacing, but is is not on the web site yet... The part number is NB-XF-(size) and it come in 46cm, 50cm, 54cm, 58cm and 60cm. It is listed for $249.95.
Hope that helps... oh yea 1-800-nashbar (627-7227)

i thought the x-check has disc tabs...hmm. well, get the karate monkey then...that definetly has them.
i got that catalog too. but i've heard mixed reviews about Nashbar frames.
meh, maybe i'll get one anyway. i can always upgrade to a Salsa or something later.
I have 2 of the moutain bike frames that I built as tour bikes and have no problems. But, since this is a new frame it could be a 250.00 test...

Is the Nashbar frame steel or aluminum?
aluminum...
Just for FYI the pic in the catalog show the frame having the same dropouts as the SuperGo Access mountain bike frame http://www.supergo.com/profile.cfm?LPROD_ID=26065&lsubcat_id=1818&lcat_id=7604&referpage=. I have heard rumors of SuperGo, Nashbar and Performance being the same company. It looks like they at least get the frames from the same place.
Also, I have the Access built 2 moutain bike on the Access frame (one disc and one non-disc) and both frames have held up... paint does chip though...

I have a Novara Element that has disc brake mounts. I just upgraded to the Avid BB7 Discs. they are awesome. It saves my rim from wear, and you stop instantly.

I heard mixed reviews on the nashbar frames.
Nashbar and Performance is owned by the same corporation/company, but they have different products, different store brands with different manufacturers.
most Performance stores used to be Supergo before Performance bought them out.
dude. zombie thread. i know it's Halloween and all, but i bought the Nashbar frame. more than two years ago.
the nashbar bike says " 130mm rear hub spacing"
I thought it ws 135 too. perhaps they "updated" the frame this year...

And? You like? Pics?
I've built up a Nashbar frame too and I'm impressed with it. The Nashbar CX frame is now 129.99 without a fork.

I just ordered a Singular Peregrine, they're finally available for US delivery:

Not quite budget: after the shipping, taking off the VAT, and adding a Brooks Pro saddle, it came to about $725.
