Hi... I'm trying to look for a nice older road bike with 105/Ultegra level componentry. Can you tell me which gruppos from the past (early to mid 90s) would be comparable in performance to today's 105/Ultegra?

I just bought a used Centurion Ironman with Shimano 600 components. I had friction front, but indexing on the RD. The frame is cromoly with a few scratches, but straight.
It's a great bike and will take me through a century this Sunday. I think I will continue with used bikes for a while. There is always another deal out there.

I remember looking for a used bike. Saw an ad in the paper and went to check it out. It was a 12 year old Raleigh with full dura-ace. 8 speed dura ace. It had been wrecked hard enough that the guy had to replace the front fork and front wheel. He wanted $750 for it.
Why would I pay that? I could buy a brand new bike for $750 and end up with something about like that... and it'd be brand new! I tried to talk him down and he said "This bike was $2800 new!" "Yeah and it's 12 years old"
Sure and he was not only full of sheet, but nuttier than a pile of squirrel turds too. Lots of good buys on used stuff if you know what you are doing.

You know, I have to agree. Bike owners don't beleive in depreciation when they are selling their bike.

Yeah but we sure believe in it when we are on the buying end.
Know a guy here in Dallas who bought a pristine mid
80's colnago for $25 at a yard sale, some folks have all the luck.
